'The human factor'..

I've heard it said that WA has the 'worst drivers in Australia' reputation and after reading the stats in the paper on Wednesday, 94 road deaths to date this year, it's possible that this could be true. I should probably check those stats, the West Australian has been known to report incorrectly! Wouldn't it be wonderful if all drivers started off their journey alcohol and drug free, not sleep deprived and without road rage so that innocent people could absolutely expect to return safely home to their families. As in many cities we have certain well known danger spots along our roads, one in particular where four precious lives have been lost over the past two years, one very dear to our family, danger spots that should be a priority but.. aren't. I love Perth very much but after a night spent with two young children who have lost their mother I'm angry. Hopefully this is the last time I'll share my sadness but I can't promise. Take care and please have a safe Friday..

  2. There's been some very poor driving in the test match today too!

  3. Always a tragedy when someone is killed out on the roads. It happens every day in Sweden. Up until five years ago a stretch of road very near me was known as the most dangerous road in Sweden. Luckily they have constructed a new road now, and the old one is only used by cyclists like me.

  4. I don't blame you for being angry Grace! You have every right. We have pretty high levels here in Arizona and road repair is so low on our Federal Governments priorities, I have no idea how long it will be fore some things get fixed. Feel free to rant anytime you want!

  6. You have every right to be angry! Our interstates are so bad, I hate to even have to travel on them.

  7. I would be just as angry in your place young lady. Vent away. It's really not difficult to be a sober, safe, considerate driver. People simply don't try hard enough.

  8. It is the same here, Grace. There are dangerous stretches of road, especially in winter, but most often it is some fool who causes the tragedy. Be well.

  9. A road of carnage followed by such a peaceful scene, with the big city as the background.

  10. Even sober, people can be total eejits with a wheel in their hands... Go on, vent all you like.

  12. I guess you've heard about MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) here in the States, right? It's been very instrumental in making substantial changes to laws related to people driving under the influence.

  13. Similar traffic problems here too Grace. I guessing no country is immune. Ever wonder why super highways are made for speed and safety and the traffic is always crawling along or stopped and on the old roads freedom to drive and get to one's destination? I'm happy most drivers take the big road and let the old ones open so I don't have to put up with the traffic jams.

Why (at least in the USA) is a parkway where one drives and a driveway where one parks?

  14. It's a worldwide problem I'm afraid Grace, I see idiots every day in too much of a hurry without any consideration for others...

  15. Motor vehicles are very dangerous. Here in the U.S. about 32,000 Americans die every year. If this were losses in a war our media would be outraged. As it is, there is little official concern or reaction. In Australia about 1,200 people die every year. These losses are personal and painful. Our heart goes out to you for your loss.

  17. It is indeed tragic. When will people realise that and stop drink/drug driving?

  18. We seem to be constantly reminded of the fact that the human factor in driving is bigger then anything else. There are lots of visitors here in Mostar for example during summer and you always hear about accidents. But of course as long as no one is hurt it's still bearable. The real tragedy comes from reckless as well as unsure drivers.

  19. Oh, Grace. You really suffered a senseless loss. And you have every right to be angry and letting it out helps a little, I reckon.
Just a few weeks ago a colleague collided with a wrong-way driver. She is ok, the car is gone, the guy was on drugs. It was an early arvo....
It´s very sad and unfair. Two young kids... I´d be very angry, too.

  20. You have every right to be angry Grace! It's sad that some drivers are inconsiderate or plain reckless and unfortunately endanger the their lives and the lives of others on the road.

  21. Grace, be angry. Be very angry. And loud. You are right and you are screaming among your friends. Those two children deserve someone who loves them screaming on their behalf.

  24. I can't imagine how you would console children after such a loss.

  25. I agree with everyone who believes you have every right to be angry! Sadly, bad drivers abound everywhere there are cars and trucks!

  26. Traffics are increasing and fill the roads. I can imagine your anger about certain people take dangerous risks and harm a family for life with that. A terrible loss for the children and don't apologize for mention it, it must be said.
