Coffee, or whatever your drink of choice, is a must at The Muse Cafe when you visit the WA Museum. Housed in the old Perth gaol behind the museum, a reminder of the convict beginnings of the colony, the rooms now very much transformed from their original use into welcoming snugs. If you would like to know more about the old gaol this is an excellent link, I enjoyed it very much..
Stepping out into the sunshine filled courtyard, surrounded by Victorian/Georgian architecture, which was almost, quelle horreur, demolished in the 70's, it's impossible to imagine the horrendous conditions back then, including executions. I can't wait to show you the museum itself, it's fabulous! Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe...
A gaol? I had to look this one up. Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteI had to look it up, too!
ReplyDeleteI bet the original convicts would never recognize the place now! Doesn't look like a gaol (or jail) NOW!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say, "What kind of jail is that?". Looks like a Starbucks. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful looking place -- jail or otherwise!!! I'm ready to have breakfast or any meal there right now!! Hope your week is going well, Grace!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so much like a cosy home!
ReplyDeleteNice collages. Like the diversity of colors.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
The convicts would not believe this could be there prison!
ReplyDelete"their" ;-))
ReplyDeleteInteresting goal. I see with the right furnishings and accent touches anyplace can be make friendly and attractive, even a 19th Century jail.
ReplyDeleteThis really looks like 'the right place'!
ReplyDeleteA very good use of the old gaol. We still use the term for the old gaol here that now serves as a youth hostel. I should really photograph the place.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great place to sit and relax and a perfect new use for the building I'd say.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous place! I might even like the decor outside even more than the inside. This would be one of frequent places to visit I believe.
ReplyDeleteHow unusual to find you in a cafe!
ReplyDeleteGreat find mind, well done up. Even I would go there.
Oh, I could find a get-a-way spot for me, my java and the morning news here. For sure.
ReplyDeletei love it and i feel so smart because i knew what a gaol was! we saw one somewhere in georgia and learned the term then...now i'm going to have to jog my memory on where it was! i think near the home of the man who wrote the brer rabbit books.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully renovated for pleasant pastimes :)
ReplyDeleteFascinating, Grace, and I am looking forward to the museum. A blogger friend and I toured the Museum of Terror in Budapest with prison rooms (and more) last September, and I can tell you it was eye-opening. Oh, and there was not a café (hah)!
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
I like the style of the cafe service area, but the coffee is bit on the pricey side. Looking forward to seeing the museum.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so smart inside and outside, beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteWe need some of that glorious sunshine over this way Grace .. please.
ReplyDeleteThat looks very pretty for a former gaol, I would have a seat in that chair.
ReplyDeleteYou have wonderful places where you live.
ReplyDeleteThe chairs make up a very cozy corner.
ReplyDeleteI have been to the WA Museum but never seen that Cafe/former jail... I need to go back!
ReplyDeleteI didn´t know about the gaol, Grace, either, I have to go back, too - especially now, that I drink coffee again!
ReplyDeleteSeesh, I´m getting old. I thought, what?! There are kids working behind the counter?! But I reckon that´s a (very) young adult....
A wonderful place and a very cozy corner on that top photo !
ReplyDeleteThe place has a warm and inviting feel to it, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool coffee bar (?) - love it!
ReplyDeleteWhy is Perth that far away from m hometwon...???
;-)
Enjoy your weekend, drink a coffee (or two) for me as well there!
Uwe.
Love the old wall textures as viewed from the laneway and they have kept the old scales too. A beautiful place for enjoying coffee.
