The Muse.. gaol never looked so cosy!

Coffee, or whatever your drink of choice, is a must at The Muse Cafe when you visit the WA Museum. Housed in the old Perth gaol behind the museum, a reminder of the convict beginnings of the colony, the rooms now very much transformed from their original use into welcoming snugs. If you would like to know more about the old gaol this is an excellent link, I enjoyed it very much..

Stepping out into the sunshine filled courtyard, surrounded by Victorian/Georgian architecture, which was almost, quelle horreur, demolished in the 70's, it's impossible to imagine the horrendous conditions back then, including executions. I can't wait to show you the museum itself, it's fabulous! Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe...

  2. I bet the original convicts would never recognize the place now! Doesn't look like a gaol (or jail) NOW!

  3. I was going to say, "What kind of jail is that?". Looks like a Starbucks. :-)

  8. Interesting goal. I see with the right furnishings and accent touches anyplace can be make friendly and attractive, even a 19th Century jail.

  10. A very good use of the old gaol. We still use the term for the old gaol here that now serves as a youth hostel. I should really photograph the place.

  12. What a fabulous place! I might even like the decor outside even more than the inside. This would be one of frequent places to visit I believe.

  17. Fascinating, Grace, and I am looking forward to the museum. A blogger friend and I toured the Museum of Terror in Budapest with prison rooms (and more) last September, and I can tell you it was eye-opening. Oh, and there was not a café (hah)!
