Fremantle has always had a strong Italian community right from the early days. Pietro Giacomo Porcelli who emigrating to WA with his father in 1898 went on to create many impressive sculptures around the city including the Peace Memorial in 1925, considered by some to be his finest work. How fitting then that one of our own most accomplished sculptors Greg James, you might recognize some of his work here, was chosen to sculpt a memorial commissioned by the Italian community to honour signor Porcelli which sits in Kings Square. The details are a joy! Is it just me or is this week zipping past, happy Thursday, take care and stay safe...
I do love this sculpture!! Such amazing detail Thank you so much, Grace, for the wonderful things you share with us!! I do look forward to your posts every day!! Thank you!! Hard to believe that another week is already half gone!! Time does fly, doesn't it!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic. It's almost like watching him 'for real' if you see what I mean!
ReplyDeleteNow that is creativity at its best. Really like it.
ReplyDeleteI like how he has included studio furniture to give us a real sense of the artist's own space, Grace.
ReplyDeleteEine schöne Skulptur sehr kreativ diese Arbeit.

Interesting phase of story! Arianna
ReplyDeleteWell, and I like the fact that it's an artist being memorialized and not simply another politician or soldier.
ReplyDeleteSlow down woman I haven't finished Wednesday yet!
ReplyDeleteGood sculpture.
An impressive sculpture, Grace!
ReplyDeleteSculptors impress the heck out of me. I don't understand how their brain works to allow them to mold such great pieces of art from big blocks of various materials. I'm just glad they do it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sculpture and so full of life. Reading your post, something really struck me. The people of today cringe at any flight over 5 hours and if it's over 10 hours we think it's sheer torture. Emigrating from Italy to Western Australia in 1898 was a monumentally greater challenge and one that took vast amounts of courage and endurance. I need to remember that the next time I book a very long flight to somewhere.
ReplyDeleteNow that's an absolutely fantastic piece of work, what ta talent...
ReplyDeleteOh I like that!
ReplyDeleteI can't decide who has the best sculptures--Perth or Ottawa!
ReplyDeleteArtists as art hero!
ReplyDeleteNice sculpture.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't just you, this week has gone way too quickly, as do all the summer days around here. This is some stunning, and intricate work of art, and you have done an excellent job in shooting it all too.
ReplyDeleteThe artist's gaze shows he's operating on a different plane.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see a modern sculpture done in a traditional style for a change. It's very lovely.
ReplyDeleteHey keep posting such good and meaningful articles.

ReplyDeleteThe sculpture of art in the process is exquisite art. Love the expression on the figure's face and the attention to detail of the whole sculpture is most appealing.
ReplyDeleteI am sure it comes to life at night Grace.
ReplyDeleteMy compliment to Greg James for this work: it is a beautiful sculpture of an interesting artist I didn't know of. There is a similar statue of Emmanuel Frémiet, as a sculptor at work on a model, at the Jardin des Plantes, in Paris.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Grace, now I know the story behind it all. Yes, this week just sped by it´s crazy...
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fabulous sculpture! I really, really like it.
ReplyDeletewhat a great sculpture!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sculpture indeed, and wonderful pictures!
ReplyDeleteI not only admire the talents of artists, but I am also am in awe of their imagination that allows them to create their art. Both of these men have an abundance of talent and creativity.
ReplyDeleteI like this a lot!
