Peaceful happy Sunday.....

Doves have been immortalized in myths and religion as a symbol of peace and love since.. forever. While researching my Turtle Dove above, I discovered a few interesting facts that I didn't know before.. one that the only difference between doves and pigeons is their size, doves being smaller, they both belong to the Columbidae family..two, that 59 species of pigeons and doves are now threatened with extinction and three that, although it sounds horrible to me, they make a good filling for a pie, the very pretty turtle doves that visit me in my garden have nothing to fear on that score :) I've been having fun playing with my new Olympus OM-D in my own back garden over the weekend, seriously excellent purchase. I hope that your weekend is going well, take care..p.s. 'you know who' was also enjoying breakfast, corn kernels yumm!

  7. I have a sudden urge to coo. Do you? Cute little pigeons! :) But that poor thing in the final photo...must have fallen chest-first into a batch of red ink.

  9. We love the doves in our yard in Scottsdale. My wife calls pigeons flying rats. I won't tell her about your research on how they are related.

  10. Still Saturday here so I feel a bit odd writing a comment for a Sunday! Wish we had some of your Australian birds here, they are so much more colourful in general than ours. Some great pictures here. Have a good day, Diane

  11. 'You know who' looks pretty happy and laid back there Grace! I wonder if Turtle Doves visit us over here?? To tell truth, I see doves quite a lot but I don't think they have that mottling around the neck area. I'll be taking better notice in future!
    Happy Sunday Grace!

  15. They are beautiful, so much more graceful than the pigeons we referred to as roof rats when I was growing up in NYC. That OM-D is a fabulous little bit of technology, isn't it?

  16. I am always fascinated by the spotted markings round the neck on this dove! So distinctly in contrast with other patterns on the bird! Your camera certainly looks like a winner! Mr Grumpy scrubs up as a rather handsome guy!
