Peaceful happy Sunday.....
Doves have been immortalized in myths and religion as a symbol of peace and love since.. forever. While researching my Turtle Dove above, I discovered a few interesting facts that I didn't know before.. one that the only difference between doves and pigeons is their size, doves being smaller, they both belong to the Columbidae family..two, that 59 species of pigeons and doves are now threatened with extinction and three that, although it sounds horrible to me, they make a good filling for a pie, the very pretty turtle doves that visit me in my garden have nothing to fear on that score :) I've been having fun playing with my new Olympus OM-D in my own back garden over the weekend, seriously excellent purchase. I hope that your weekend is going well, take care..p.s. 'you know who' was also enjoying breakfast, corn kernels yumm!

ReplyDeleteGreat photos Grace.
ReplyDeleteHey we have these also - the doves I mean :-) . sharp pics!
ReplyDeleteAloha
Lovely close up of the dove Grace and I really like the blur of vibrant colour in the background - hibiscus?
ReplyDeleteNice captures. Looks like you picked up a terrific new camera -- how exciting for you! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeletegreat captures of the birds...I love doves!
ReplyDeleteFabulous shots - the camera is working well, Grace!
ReplyDeleteI have a sudden urge to coo. Do you? Cute little pigeons! :) But that poor thing in the final photo...must have fallen chest-first into a batch of red ink.
ReplyDeleteThe doves are lovely. I like to listen to their soft 'coos'. Glad the new camera is living up to your expectation.
ReplyDeleteWe love the doves in our yard in Scottsdale. My wife calls pigeons flying rats. I won't tell her about your research on how they are related.
ReplyDeleteGreat first shot!
ReplyDeleteExceptional shots!
ReplyDeleteStill Saturday here so I feel a bit odd writing a comment for a Sunday! Wish we had some of your Australian birds here, they are so much more colourful in general than ours. Some great pictures here. Have a good day, Diane
ReplyDelete'You know who' looks pretty happy and laid back there Grace! I wonder if Turtle Doves visit us over here?? To tell truth, I see doves quite a lot but I don't think they have that mottling around the neck area. I'll be taking better notice in future!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday Grace!
I don't know if it is the camera or your skill but they are brilliant photos.
ReplyDeleteI never tire of the beautiful bird shots!
ReplyDeleteBirds of a feather, Grace! Mr. Grumpy looks rather pleased with himself.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful, so much more graceful than the pigeons we referred to as roof rats when I was growing up in NYC. That OM-D is a fabulous little bit of technology, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI am always fascinated by the spotted markings round the neck on this dove! So distinctly in contrast with other patterns on the bird! Your camera certainly looks like a winner! Mr Grumpy scrubs up as a rather handsome guy!
ReplyDeleteI love morning doves.
ReplyDeleteThe camera seems to be working fine.
ReplyDeleteGreat models!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors.
Enjoy your Sunday and the new camera!:)
Beautiful pictures of the pigeons!
ReplyDeletethese have me cooing.
ReplyDeleteThey even look peaceful when you seem them!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea the difference between them! I love hearing the doves coo when spring comes around. Oh, and gorgeous pictures all of them:) Your wonderful new toy is benefiting us too!
ReplyDeleteWow. The clarity and depth of field in those top two shots is brilliant. Your new camera takes fabulous shots particularly when operated by such a fine photographer.
ReplyDeletethe clarity of these images is a testament to that camera ... the clever images a testament to your eye!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Dove! Very different from the Turkish ones we have here.
ReplyDeleteWonderful images dear Gracie! So cute birds, you got lovely perfect portraits!
