Anzac Day.....

A Tribute to ANZAC Day
With their hair a little whiter, their step not quite so sure
Still they march on proudly as they did the year before.
Theirs were the hands that saved us, their courage showed the way
Their lives they laid down for us, that we may live today.
From Gallipoli's rugged hillsides, to the sands of Alamein
On rolling seas and in the skies, those memories will remain.
Of airmen and the sailors, of Lone Pine and Suvla Bay
The boys of the Dardenelles are remembered on this day.
They fought their way through jungles, their blood soaked desert sands
They still remember comrades who rest in foreign lands.
They remember the siege of old Tobruk, the mud of the Kokoda Trail
Some paying the supreme sacrifice with courage that did not fail.
To the icy land of Korea, the steamy jungles of Vietnam
And the heroic battle of Kapyong and that epic victory at Long Tan.
Fathers, sons and brothers, together they fought and died
That we may live in peace together, while at home their mothers cried.
When that final bugle calls them to cross that great divide
Those comrades will be waiting when they reach the other side.

The State War Memorial above is the venue for the Dawn Service, the beginning of a full program of events (see link) planned each year on the 25th April for Anzac Day..It'll be an early start this morning, around 4.30am, watching the sun come up over the city while the bugle plays The Last Post followed by a silence and the Reveille and joining thousands of other Perthites to honour the Anzacs is a memorable experience..and thankfully it won't be raining, just 'dewing' heavily :) Have a good Thursday, take care and stay safe.....

  8. We entered Carnarvon in 1995, unknowing (shame on us!) and Woolworth was closed.
All citizens were in town, taking part in the parade, just us few tourists cheering.
    Cheering a lot.
It´s good you have Anzac-Day, wish we had something positive like that (my parents were kids, my Dad´s Father managed to not participate, yet at age 14 I was supoosed to say I am sorry for what I did to the Jewish people.
It should never ever be forgotten or forgiven but generations who really... aww.)
War... what is it good for, huh?
Sad and and also kinda good there are people who risk their lifes to safe those who can´t defend themselves.
Love the pic. King´s Park is a great place. Gotta publish the magnet I got there! And no, no flowers/plants!

  9. Really nice photos, Grace. And with no disrespect intended, I couldn't help but think you maybe needed a "prozac" day rather than an Anzac day...hope you're feeling better!

  10. Hi again. I wanted to answer your question about the prices of homes in Brownwood. I think that Brownwood would reflect the same price structure as other homes in The Villages. Some areas contain very large homes which cost over $1 million. Other areas are comprised of villas or townhomes and run as low as about $175,000. Many are modest homes priced in the $200,000 to $300,000 range.

And the place is still growing. Ten years ago there was just one downtown (Spanish Springs) and maybe 20,000 people. Now there are over 80,000 residents and three downtowns. I'd guess there must be 35-40 golf courses or more. The Villages has spread over an area - about 6 miles wide and 15-20 miles in length.

I wouldn't want to live there but we enjoy visiting!

  12. Sometimes freedom must be high price of many lives. Honor the fallen! Sadly, there are still many countries without freedom. Obelisk is a decent place. Good reverent place. Nice to Thursdays. Petr.

  14. Beautiful tribute Grace and its not raining over our side of the country either.
Rain at the Dawn Services casts such a raw sadness. And you're right "memorable experience" is an apt description of a Dawn Service.
