An Officer and a Gentleman.....

Seriously it would have been too easy to turn over and go back to sleep at 4.30am yesterday morning, but once again I'm so glad that I didn't. To experience the dawn service high up in Kings Park is almost a surreal experience. The respect felt by the thousands of Perthites and visitors sitting silently waiting for the sun to rise is almost palpable, there are no loud voices, even the many small children are quiet or asleep :) Remember those grassy slopes I showed you last week, they were the perfect spot to sit and watch the dawn over Perth, it's pretty oui?
In this shot you can just see the Flame of Remembrance to the right side, but it was the tall 'officer and a gentleman' that caught my eye..
Bet you wouldn't have been able to resist either.. this gentleman 'greasing up' his instrument in readiness for the Anzac parade down St. George's Terrace, standing beside his super shiny, super cool old Holden 'Special'..nice! It's a little weird having a holiday on a Thursday, kind of throws you all out :) but it is Friday today even though it feels like Sunday, hope it's a good one, take care and stay safe....

  2. The first photo, is the light sunlight starting to spread over the city? Wow. I think the slightly hirsute officer looks more interesting. Now really, greasing up his instrument! You ought not feed lines like that, or I will be forced to respond, and your blog will not be suitable for family listening.

All the photos are wonderful. What skill and what a camera.

  8. Funny! One of my favorite all time movies is The Invisible Man. I found it last at 10PM, in the middle of a fit of insomnia.

  9. Beautiful pics! The reason still makes me sad, though, but the last pic... guess what, first time I came to your beautiful country we bought a Holden (Commodore) to travel and sleep in for 6 months.

To all the brave men who try to (and often do) help the weaker ones.

Still not sure about all the countries where families (women and children, mainly, as usual) are threatened the heaviest and troops are ordered home.
Read too many books about what women in those areas had to experience (German "heritage"?).
    To braveness and caring!

  16. I love that second shot, but all are terrific. Didn't you kind of want to do a Debra Winger and put that officer's hat on your head? Thanks for sharing.

  25. How wonderful! Now you made me think of the night I was at the very top of the highest pyramide in Tikal, Guatemala, above the jungle canopy watching the sun rise. Just sublime.
