Just as Sydney has it's
Kings Cross district, Paris it's
Quartier Pigalle and London it's
Soho, Perth's James Street in Northbridge is without doubt their smaller and less known equivalent, this section of James St. has it's fair share of 'interesting' establishments. The one thing it does have in common with it's famous counterparts is that hand in hand with the 'dodgy' element, all of these areas are rich in pubs, clubs, theatre, cafes, restaurants and music venues. If you look back to the traffic lights in the below shot, just across from there is the Perth Cultural Centre that I posted last week and a bit further up the street my favourite cinema the Paradiso. So although it's wise to 'take care' in this area after dark there is a lot to be found here that doesn't involve latex in any way, unless of course.. you're wearing it haha! Have a fab Thursday, stay safe.....
Our local downtown isn't big enough to have "districts"!! Which means we aren't rich in anything dodgy or otherwise. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun area to me! The small area of Seattle where I live has a little of all the necessary things, but nothing particularly artsy or interesting. It was a pretty cool area at one time, but like so many places here in the states, it has gone steadily downhill along with the economy. Hope your week is going well! Have fun!!
ReplyDeleteI actually like exploring these parts of towns... and I don't normally wear latex! :-)
ReplyDeleteEs schaut sehr geschäftig aus und schön bunt, ist halt auch ein Stück Flair einer Weltstadt...
ReplyDeleteLieben Gruß
CL
Haha, Gracie, you're a "coquine"!
ReplyDeleteIn Nice, this special district is named : "Californie"!
Excellent fun:) You know, I'm not a nude hiker but we took a trail full of them. While writing the post, I had to keep in mind that although I wouldn't walk nude, some people might love it in this inferno. The sunburn....I can't imagine:) Today it's one of the most hit upon posts when searched for on the google machine. I think some anonymous soul actually thanked me for being open to the nude hikers as well. That was nice.....so you may have some very happy latex people out there thanking you for this tidbit:) Hope you are having a good week.
ReplyDeleteAbout the google/blog issue. I think they changed a formula for the month of August. I was posting my work on the Google + prepping it for the next day release when it was deactivated. So I did it unintentually to myself while putting my work up on that new google feature. Bizarre.
Great to know all this.
ReplyDeleteA colourful part of town me thinks!
ReplyDeleteon pourrait se croire a Pigalle mais dans les pays du sud ;)
ReplyDeleteCould have been Stockholm back in the early 1970s.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I love it! NY's Times Square was likewise a bit seedy 16, 17 years back (even if it's Disneyland now). I used to work in Times Square before the changes (in a *legit* office, no latex involved! :) and can't believe how quickly things evolve. I wonder if these areas can hold onto some character, even as the rest of the city changes?
ReplyDeleteWonderful where alike is possible. Back home, in Hamburg, there's nearly a whole district of the town dedicated to it.
ReplyDeleteOver here, it has indeed the taste of danger and a rather 'no go zone'. Nevertheless think, that it is a much needed and important part of every society.
Please have a good Thursday.
I love walking Kings Cross during the day, but would not touch it with a barge pole during the night ...
ReplyDeleteVery interesting Grace, when I visited Amsterdam the Red light district was very intersting to walk through but not at night!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like every town has its own version of a Red Light district. In Boston we used to call it the "Combat Zone."
ReplyDeleteAh, the ways you educate us about Perth, Grace!
ReplyDeleteThey're everywhere! Too funny.
ReplyDeleteThere's at least one area like this in every city methinks!
ReplyDeleteI was only visiting Perth not so long ago. I tried a few fine dining in the CBD. Certainly I was not aware of James St. I would pay attention to this area next time!
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing us around your cool town!
ReplyDeleteAloha from Waikiki

Glad to see they have "Live Girls" - the other kind are just not so much fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat images, in daylight the street seems calm, just the sign 'Live Girls' add the right touch to the atmosphere. In Mexico City we have the Pink Zone, a neighborhood which is known for its shopping, nightlife, gay community, and its recently established Korean community, located just west of the historic center.
ReplyDeleteFunny girl! I think I would definitely avoid this place after dark! Always amazing what goes on in the city, isn't it? Nice street shots.
ReplyDeletewe used to have Times Square til it got Disneyified
ReplyDeleteIt is probable that all cities of any size have areas like this ... I remember waiting for a cab outside of Moulin Rouge late at night in Paris...kinda scary area there, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat goes on in places like that? I'll probably have to investigate! ;)
ReplyDeleteThe place is quite colorful. I think it’s a fun place to visit.
ReplyDeleteA district I'm sure I would enjoy!
