Twice as nice (or, sitting ducks).....!!
I spotted these two Australian Shelduck slumbering alongside the Swan River when we were walking on Monday. The female, with the white ring around her eyes, completely ignored me, but as I got a little closer the male began making a peculiar honking sort of noise to let me know I was getting a tad close for comfort, fair enough no one likes a lens stuck in their face when trying to kip!! I loved the colours in their plumage and the 'vicars' collars, tres chic! So, after terrorizing the ducks (kidding!), I spotted these two Black Swans sailing regally by, looking back two seconds later those beautiful long necks had disappeared under the water in search of food. It's a weird and wonderful world out there in the wild! It's grey and wet in Perth today, it had to happen sometime, will have to find some colour in other ways. Have a good day, take care.....

Grey and wet, perfect weather for black and white or HDR photos. Sitting duck, waiting for the next rainfall. Probably in 5 months or so.
ReplyDeleteAh! l'heure de la sieste à deux... Un vrai moment de bonheur!!!
ReplyDeleteI do love your sleep ducks, Grace, and the black swans are gorgeous! Such terrific shots for the day! Hope your week is going well! We're getting a little break from the rain, BLUE SKIES!!!
ReplyDeleteReal or decoys... I had to take your word.
ReplyDeleteVery real Mark..
DeleteI love both these shots, Grace. The swans are so elegant and the ducks so colourful!

ReplyDeleteBonza photos. The weather is not much better down here either :-).
ReplyDeleteYour environment amazes !
ReplyDeletePlease have a good Thursday.
They are beautiful and you captured them to perfection!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful birds, all of them.
ReplyDeletebeautifully captured moments!
ReplyDeleteBoth pairs are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYou had to get very close and probably flat down of the ground. Some teacher once told me that a sign of a good photographer is dirty knees.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors and the focus in the first picture - so perfect. The birds are indeed beautiful. Ducks by the Swan river - very nice :-).
ReplyDeleteI love the wonders you show us!
ReplyDeleteBTW- heard that US military was going to have a presence in your vicinity.... like a base or something...hope it's not intrusive. Perth is SO nice

Wow! Those are some good looking ducks! And the swans aren't slouches either.
ReplyDeleteSome striking ducks and swans- very regal and extravagant colourings. You must have been patient to capture these Grace!
ReplyDeleteThe plumage on these ducks is quite striking. Lovely clarity in your photo Grace.
ReplyDeleteLike decorated pieces of natural art !
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...first shot is very sweet...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and I feel a very romantic scene...
ReplyDeleteThese are some of the most gorgeous ducks I have ever seen!
ReplyDelete"luv a duck!" I prefer the swans actually, one black one has turned up in the UK. Could you count yours and see if one is missing?
ReplyDeletethey are so sweet, they look like they're posing for decoys .. .there's a blog out there, not naming names, where the blogger likes to post 6-10 photos, most not in focus, and at least half of them identical shots, identical down to the out of focus .. such an odd blog .. nothing like your ducks .. I looked at your ducks and thought I hope that blogger visits and sees what a good bird shot is .. just sayin'
ReplyDeleteBlack swans are so beautiful - and so unusual too! You did well spotting these :-)
