Along with kangaroos and kookaburras, the koala bear, which is really not a bear at all, is probably one of the most iconic Australian animals. Unfortunately here in Australia we are plagued by bushfires in the summer, many deliberately started which I find so hard to understand. The koala and the many native animals that live in the bush are the victims of this senseless crime and it breaks my heart to think of them suffering such a horrendous fate, the animals surviving, confused and terrified. Thankfully there are dedicated teams of animal rescuers (please watch the video it certainly made me tear up) out there that search the bush after such disasters and do everything they can to save the surviving animals. Thank the Lord for them and may they continue to do such a fantastic job.....! The theme for February is animals, Click here to view thumbnails for all participants
What a heart-breaking post! I've always thought that Koalas were cute, for lack of a better word. We have crazies that deliberately set fires in central Florida also. I don't understand it.
ReplyDeleteYou Australians are so lucky to have those iconic animals. If I ever go to live in Australia, I would definitely have a house where there are lots of Koalas at the backyard :-) - they are so adorable...I can't believe people would deliberately start fire! WHY????????/
ReplyDeleteSuch a cutie and so disheartening to read of their troubles in the fires. A wonderful post for the day Grace!
ReplyDeleteI just watched the video Grace. Thank God for these people!

ReplyDeletetouching take on the theme..
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed so heartbreaking to read, Grace! So very sad and the video does indeed bring the tears. Definitely thank God for these people! Thank you for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
Let's see. All they do is sleep, eat eucalyptus leave and, on rare occasion, mate. Such a life.
ReplyDeleteThey are adorable and I am glad to see that the rescuers are doing such a selfless job caring for them.
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
I agree with Genie. How could anyone every hurt them.
ReplyDeleteTerrific theme day post.
ReplyDeleteWonderful image Grace. You caught Blinky Bill in a very deep sleep. Nicely framed. He looks so peaceful.
ReplyDeleteHe/She certainly does look relaxed taking 40 winks :-).
ReplyDeleteMagnifique, il y en a qui on de la chance, un beau metier Koala ;)
ReplyDeleteA super shot of this beautiful creature amongst the eucalypts. You are so right, why do people start fires? Same here, same everywhere but here we don't have adorable koalas who die.
ReplyDeleteHi Grace, couldn't comment on IE, had to switch to Firefox.
ReplyDeleteHope this little fella never sees a fire. So sweet (and I wish I could sleep like that!)

ReplyDeletewhat to say, adorable.... nice shot, well done, ciao

Ah the koala, you're winning our hearts here!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo.
I'm off to see the video now.
BTW, the link doesn't work from the CDP theme day home page, you might want to bring up the issue with the CDP administrators (and you're not the only one, several others have the same pbm)
you are lucky to shot him

Wonderful picture and I like his style!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful pose and photo. Long may they and their habitat thrive.
ReplyDeleteChrissy at Manchester: a photo a day at Mancunian Wave
The best koala photo I have seen, poor old Blinky Bill!
ReplyDeleteWhat a tender photo...I didn't watch the video; sure it would be too sad to see, but of course I strongly condemn the perpetrators of such awful crimes.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo, with a very sad story. Hard to understand the meanness of people, or their desire to destroy. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCozy nap, looks really cute !
ReplyDeleteThis one looks to be getting in a little 'rack time'.
ReplyDeleteWonderful light in this pic Grace ..... Gorgeous capture.
ReplyDeleteHe looks how I have been feeling..........
ReplyDeleteLOVING the rain :)
They look su cute, I have seen them when I was in Australia, I had to look twice to see them, they are so quiet, you hardky see them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo of a very nice animal!
ReplyDeleteperfect choice for the theme, grace.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! What else could you post for the animals day. He's the perfect choice! :)
ReplyDeleteIs he sleeping? I love koalas, they are sooo cute, but I've never seen one in nature.
ReplyDeleteYes, great work by koala rescuers after fires. I am bit puzzled though about why they get burnt and haven't adapted to our mega bushfires. I am sure huge bushfires happened long before white man came to Australia. Koalas, sleep, eat roots and leaves. Maybe I should have added another comma somewhere.
ReplyDeleteNice shot Perth, brought a smile to my face...
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful animals! It is a wonderful thing that there are people who do this great rescue work.
ReplyDeleteO my he realyy does look so cosy and comfortable there.
ReplyDeleteOh crap, I forgot it was theme day .. GAH .. I love that photo, I know they are not sweet animals but he looks so sweet ..
ReplyDeleteThey are so cute! It's sad that some people are so bad and can't be bothered that they are destroying our beautiful world!
ReplyDeletehow adorable. the koala bear is so wonderfully captured.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful image, seems to be soaking up the sun!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this! What a sweet capture. (And, my...look at those claws!)
ReplyDeleteOh , soooooooo cute! With kangaroos and Jackman a real and lovely symbol of Australia!
ReplyDeleteSweet! Bye, Arianna
ReplyDeleteHi, I've been meaning to say hello for a while. I keep seeing your smiley pic in the comments on other people's blogs and I always agree with/like what you say. I'm having trouble commenting on posts with embedded comments but I've now found it works using a different browser...So I've finally got round to this. It's an good photo to comment on too. My baby granddaughter just had a gift of a soft toy koala bear, very endearing.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful capture, Grace. Firebugs I cannot have any sympathy for and what they do to the animals and environment is criminal. They should be locked in some very hot place for a very long time. Hell sounds good.
ReplyDeleteI cannot get my head around why anyone would deliberately start a bush fire... it is a whole new level of selfish stupidity!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pic....
My son loves to play with them, of course as a toy. Must be a few month still, until fires will start over here again as well; at least in the forests.
ReplyDeletePlease have a good new month ahead.
PERFECT post in every way!
ReplyDeleteI'm still looking for a picture book I had as a kid growing up in former Yugoslavia -- about a koala bear who travels to England with a school-boy (the two are inseperable), who gets sick during the journey & is missing his homeland, and who the boy entrusts to the captain to have him return home.
Oh my fires deliberately started, we have too many bad deliberates in the world. But then we have the wonderful teams that volunteer and rescue. Brings tears to me at the thought of these animals scared in the homeland.
ReplyDelete53 COMMENTS? Oh what can I say to you dear friend? How about I love your photo and if you hadn't posted a koala I'd have been pouting!
ReplyDeleteV
Your koala is pretty special, Grace.
ReplyDeleteString up the idiots who start fires. From their thumbs.
What a perfect post from "down under". How sad to learn of senseless habitat destruction of the koalas.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see a koala for theme day!
ReplyDeleteYour koala looks so peaceful there in the tree. How sad that people knowingly start fires, is there a reason they do this?
ReplyDeletelast time I met him, it was at the zoo. A very sweet animal as koko the kokocrunch. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the peacefulness!
These guys are so cute. It's hard to believe someone would purposely burn them out. Great shot.
ReplyDeleteDarryl and Ruth :)
Amazing capture! These are some of the cutest animals ever.
