In retrospect perhaps we should have taken two nights away to spend more time in each town we visited, too late! I feel I've let you down a little on the Margaret River part of the road trip, we arrived late in the evening and after the long drive were ready to have dinner and retire. The temperate climate makes for perfect grape growing and the Margaret River wine region produces 20% of Australia's premium wine. Yes we brought a few bottles home :)
We were up super early the next morning and off to Prevelly just 10 minutes out of MR. Margaret River is also renowned worldwide for it's surf breaks and while we enjoyed watching as we had breakfast in the White Elephant Cafe, hot coffee on a chilly early morning is the best, the locals, a hardy bunch, were out swimming. The big breaks were about a km out, it's a little hard to see here how big those breaking waves were.. and there were surfers out there!
Straight after breakfast we were on our way to Augusta where the Southern Ocean meets the Indian Ocean. I did a bit better there photo wise. Didn't realise until I downloaded the shot below that there was a horse in the field not the slightest bit bothered that we were leaving town so soon :) Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..
The waters look deceptively inviting.
ReplyDeleteI spent 3 or 4 days in Augusta at My cousin's summer cottage, what a lovely place... and I went up to the top of the Cape Leeuwin lighthouse, great view where the Southern Ocean meets the Indian ocean! And I saw a pod of dolphins cavorting in the waves, oh such wonderful memories!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice little getaway. We visited vineyards in Adelaide when we were there decades ago. I've loved Australian wines ever since!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to visit. Those waves look pretty impressive.
ReplyDeleteThat does look like a good surf break, but a long paddle out! Wonderful road trip. Thanks for taking us along!
ReplyDeleteYou did a lot of traveling in 2 days, Grace! Fine looking surf out there!
ReplyDeleteDearest Grace,
ReplyDeleteYou sure did capture some awful photos and yes, hindsight it is always 'easy' to say we should have spent more time there...
Hugs,
Mariette
...wine and waves are great, but I love that road.
ReplyDeleteSure looks inviting.
ReplyDeleteYou never let us down ♥️✔️
ReplyDeleteLovely seascape photos. Sounds like you are having a great time.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised you only stayed away one night but I'm sure you crammed plenty in. Those waves do look monstrous.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a great trip. Maybe you can stay longer another time.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo with the horse! I want to go down that road!
Sounds like you had a nice time away, it's always good to see new things.
ReplyDeleteIsn't That Always The Case, Should Have Stayed Two Nights There - I Feel That Every Time That I Am Enjoying My Stay - That Cove Is Beyond Picturesque - Such An Ideal Location For A Cup Of Morning Joe - Lovin This Vaca Of Yours
ReplyDeleteCheers
Last time we were in Margaret River - Dec 2019, we stayed in an Airbnb close to the White Elephant cafe :).
ReplyDeleteNot many people have grapes here. I am to far north.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Grace :-)
ReplyDeleteIngo just got a few beer-bottles home (delivered!) - day of German beer here. I hope the bottle of wine that sits here since weeks (months? - open, too) will do for the goulash this weekend!
Ohhh, the ocean! And that café!
This made me giggle: "four legged friends are welcome (just keep them on a leash please)." But why White Elephant?
Happy Friday to you, Grace, thank you for the journey.
Oh I love road trips and you have furnished some great photos. I am still smiling after seeing those post boxes! Hmm you were cold and they were swimming! A hearty bunch indeed.
ReplyDeleteThat last photo is really stunning and the other ones make me very curious to see more. Well done.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo's of your trip and to see beautiful nature. My outing was this morning a visit at the vaccination location, had my first one at last! In a few weeks the second one and than I am protected against the virus!
ReplyDeleteThere is so much to see and enjoy in this part of the world.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely journey with you, and my most favorite photo, those trees, it's like the avenue of trees begging us to continue on! Take good care of you!
ReplyDeleteWe did a wine tour in the Adelaide area many years ago with distant family members who live there. It rained the whole time, so we decided to get as soaked inside as we were outside. 😊🍷🍾 Have a good day, Diane
ReplyDeleteI love the second shot.
ReplyDeleteWow!... ;)
