I am a huge fan of lighthouses and was looking forward to seeing the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse again. The people in the shot above were heading up the 176 stairs to the viewing deck of this 39 mt high lighthouse. Oh how I was tempted, but an appointment with my physio the next day kept me at ground level :) The lighthouse, the tallest mainland lighthouse in Australia, sits here on the most south westerly point of Australia where the Southern Ocean meets the Indian Ocean. It was a beautifully calm day but you can imagine the horrors the first seafarers to explore this coastline would have faced here on a wild and windy night. I would love it if you could watch the 4 minute video HERE, a short history of the shipwrecks that lie off this coast recounted in a more succinct way than I could :) We then went on to Pemberton, the trees you saw a few days ago and home! Next time we will definitely stay longer. Happy weekend, take care and stay safe..
A beautiful lighthouse, and a grand setting.
ReplyDelete...that beauty from every angle!
ReplyDeleteThere is something fascinating about lighthouses. This one is a beauty, Grace!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about lighthouses. And you got a few great photos here.
ReplyDeleteWhat an impressive lighthouse and the location is stunning.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lighthouse. One of the very few things I miss in Florida is the proximity to lighthouse. We have them in Michigan, but the virus has prevented us from visiting any.
ReplyDeleteLighthouses are great places to use for amateur radio.

ReplyDeleteThat's quite a lighthouse! I don't think I'd like to be up top on a stormy night though. I get the feeling that the woman in the video has trotted out those facts a few hundred times before!
ReplyDeleteThat's indeed a very beautiful lighthouse .For my feeling by seeing your photo's a bit to thin for its height but stil standing all those years so it must be a sturdy one .
ReplyDeleteDearest Grace,
ReplyDeleteYou did NOT mention the origin of Leeuwin's Cape, it is named after a Dutch ship in 1622, the Leeuwin (Lioness). It was the very first ship that has visited the area!
Great photos and interesting video too. So glad they are a true beacon and thus avoiding lots of wrecks.
Hugs,
Mariette
I remember the lighthouse very well, and the meeting of the oceans and we saw meeting of the oceans in South Africa too. There, the waters were different colours. Great photos, thanks.
ReplyDeleteSuper, brings back memories of my visit to this lighthouse, it was in 2003 and yes I did stagger all the way up those stairs to the top. Great view from the top. I stayed for 3 or 4 days in Augusta, such a lovely place, and it was my first introduction to a lamington. mmmmm now I want one.

ReplyDeleteCheers
Thank you for sharing this beautiful place I would never have known anything about. The blues are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOver coast of United States on pacific, one can rent room a light house.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Grace, thank you for taking us along on this trip. The lighthouse looks great, but the thought of climbing all those stairs makes my knees hurt. How cool to be able to see two oceans from one spot.
ReplyDeleteGrace, what is it about the cow with the parrot???
ReplyDeleteWhat a story with the lights on the beach!
Glad for a fool-proof-system - we need that everywhere...
Oh, and the beautiful details of the lighthouse! Thank you for the pics and video.
If I may... there is a The Simpsons-episode... just ask your Daughter 🤣🤣🤣
A beautiful wild part of Australia. lovely photos too. Thanks for the memories of when we toured there. It was so windy that I could fall backwards and the wind held me up. Hope you get through the lockdown safely and all contacts and cases are found. Been there done that and it worked. I agree with your premier, that quarantine should be handled by the federal govt, and away from the cities.
ReplyDeleteI love lighthouses too, Grace, even we don't have one here...
ReplyDeleteOne more reason to admire your beautiful photos.
I've been to the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse twice, but never climbed the steps. Only went up a lighthouse in New South Wales - Norah Heads which only has 96 steps :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos, Gracie. Well done to you both for recording your trip so well and sharing the 'loot' with us. Been a while since I've travelled back there, so must put it on the cards...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful lighthouse and surrounding grounds. I'm a fan of them too, where I grew up Michigan has 124 lighthouses while here in Minnesota we have only eight.
ReplyDeleteThat is an exceptional structure. You live in a magical place!
ReplyDeleteIt is good enough only the lighthouse and the sky
ReplyDeleteIt is too beautiful!
What a great lighthouse. Well worth a visit.
