Most unexpected!

We went on a trip yesterday in search of 'something'.. tell you tomorrow,  I certainly did not expect to see a family of peafowl.. you will understand why tomorrow when I show you where we were :) I was so taken aback that I was just able to snap a few shots before they were off. I always think it is terribly unfair that the peacock, as with many male birds, is so exotically colourful while the females are often much less so. Really disappointed that they were a bit shy, I would have loved to see that tail fanned out in all it's glory, will keep my eyes open for that shot somewhere, sometime :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. Any guesses where we might have been?

  1. ...we see a peacock down the road, but he never spreads his tail.

  2. Do you know why a peacock screams so loudly?
When he looks at his feet and see how ugly they are, he gets frustrated! 😅
Did you go to a farm to buy fresh eggs? 😅

  3. How fun to run into these colorful birds. I do love watching the males put on their show for their female friends. I also love seeing how the females react which is usually with no interest whatsoever. It's funny. It looks like you might be visiting a farm of some sort or maybe an animal sanctuary.

  4. Beautiful birds. We used to enjoy watching them in St. Augustine, Florida.

  5. Then a predator comes along and spots the male while the female slips off safely into the bushes. It's not all beer and skittles being a bloke!

  9. The colour on his neck is amazing and wonderful, Grace! I have no idea where you were.

  10. In the bird world the males are often more brightly colored than the females. Perhaps that is to draw predators away? Great shots of these still flashy birds.

  11. They are rather the opposite to humans, where females are inclined to put on a display for the drably dresses males.

  14. Look at it the other way round, Grace. "Women" are beautiful from the inside, whereas "men" have to show off - JUST KIDDING!
No idea. Not Caversham, that peacock was very aggressive, showing all his beauty? Well that is... wow. How old do they get? That was 2013...

    Looking forward to tomorrow here!

  19. Peacocks are the prettiest things, though I understand they are noisy.

  20. At our local zoo, peacocks just walk around and hang out. It's cool!

  21. Male or female ... , Ha-ha ...
Peacocks are too beautiful even if decorative tail feathers were lost. ;)
Even if female, too ... :)

  22. According to Stanford Medical, It's indeed the SINGLE reason women in this country get to live 10 years longer and weigh an average of 42 pounds lighter than we do.

(And by the way, it is not related to genetics or some secret diet and really, EVERYTHING about "HOW" they eat.)

BTW, I said "HOW", not "what"...
