Art is a bit like that don't you think.. a voyage of discovery. To understand this piece and the reason for my title you will have to read the description below. While I like to think I have a broad appreciation of artistic expression in it's many forms there are times when I have looked and thought seriously! The real irony here is that despite the controversy when acquired, I think this is a very clever piece of construction and probably took a lot more thought and effort than some of the works hanging on the walls. I'm not sure I'd have a spot for it at home đ but was happy to enjoy it's intricacies here in the Art Gallery of WA. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

ReplyDeleteI find it interesting too with all the bits and pieces it took to make it a whole. As you say it certainly took a lot more thought and time to set up than many other works of art.

ReplyDeleteThe beauty of art is if it makes you think no matter what you may be thinking. I like this because it draws you in to look more closely at all the bits and pieces that make it up. The controversy around it's purchase is interesting too.

ReplyDeleteI tend to agree with the Secretary of the Gallery Society, but hey ho..... art can be anything you want it to be. Actually I like all the bits and pieces but I wouldn't want it in my house or even in my garden and have to look at it every day.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me think of something you would see floating in space. The found objects would be space debris that magnetized together to form this piece. I like this piece and I love Jenn's comment. I so agree with her.

ReplyDeleteI like this sculpture. It's Ike outsiders work. Picasso in his time used to assemble abandoned objects to create something else. Artists often have visions and create new forms from nothing

An Erector set on steroids. Not sure you had them in Oz, but back in the 60's when I was a boy here in the USA they were great toys. There is a British version, but I forget the name.

I guess I am more of a traditionalist art viewer; not really interested in this kind of art, which surprises me because art work is one of the highlights of my viewing pleasure.
