Leedy Palooza.. Un-Fair Day!

Unfair Day = 'The best-worst family street fair you're most unwelcome to attend. Unlucky dips, bad family portraits, misfortune cookies and weirdly wonderful creations. Unfair Day will be regrettably unforgettable!' You've just got to love free community events during Fringe World :)

Aimee and I were in Leederville on Sunday afternoon when Oxford Street below, the main street in Leedy was transformed into an urban lounge room..

We were a little early to have our misfortunes told by the 'unfortunate fortune teller' which was actually fortunate for me.. that tent was unfortunately way too small for a claustrophobe like moi :)

Seriously small!

The kids were fascinated by the snakes.. I too was never almost tempted to wear it around my neck :) I did touch though.. cool!

They do say that children have more fun with the boxes their presents come in than with the actual present itself.. could be true. Below a massive pile of old boxes in Boxville kept many children busy constructing for ages..

I might be pushing my luck with number of pics so will show a few more tomorrow. I'm glad I took the shot below looking down on Oxford Street, the main street in Leederville where the traffic can be hectic and the parking scarce. Taken over for the afternoon and evening by unfortunates.. I like it much better this way :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe...

  1. Somewhere, Indiana Jones is saying, "snakes... why'd it have to be snakes?"

Oddly I've never had problems with those critters, but then Australia has a lot more dangerous snakes.

  2. What a great place and a great event. Un-everything. Who'd a thought that up? Such creativity and sense of fun y'all have! I don't like snakes much, either. We have a lot of garden snakes...long, black 'un's, but they are good - eat bugs and stuff. Love those portraits. I could be an artist for that particular event! Fun post, Grace.

  3. ...a lot of fun stuff going on there, but what's with this fascination of snakes?

  4. A fun event, well except for those snakes!

  5. Always love a crazy community event. This one looks crazy enough for me. I used to work with a young person who loved cardboard boxes, so much so that he insisted on exploring their full potential as versatile toys by playing with them in the bath. Oh well, you have to learn these things.

  6. My goodness, that looks like a lot of fun and what a clever idea for the theme. And yes, that is a seriously tiny dog.

  7. Oh my happy surprise experience this is! It's just the kind of fair that would be hard to leave!

  9. What a great idea Unfair Day is and I don't think children would care at all about badness. It is nice when busy streets are closed to traffic and taken over by people.

  14. What an original idea, sounds like a lot of fun. I like the fortune tellers tent and the tiny dog! Years ago I went with my grandson to an exotic animals day at a local museum where I held a large snake (think it was a boa constrictor) and a tarantula!!

  15. The snakes apparently held much fascination by people of all ages. Family portraits?? Sounds like a good idea. Your last photo gives a good idea of the scope of the event.

  17. A pretty dreadful looking day, Grace. So sorry you had to go and endure it. But at least everyone else had to put up with it, too. (We traveled with a tent that size all over the U.S. Southwest and up along the West Coast. Ours holds many happy memories.)

  20. I agree, cities without all that traffic are so much nicer to enjoy! I like that funn of the fringe festival, everything the opposite way :)

  22. I am one of those people who love snakes but I am also very wary if I am not sure which one it is. I have a great respect for poisonous snakes. Cheers Diane

  23. I'd give the misfortune teller a shot--as long as the snakes aren't nearby!
