Nesting in Hyde Park..

The trees in Hyde Park never fail to captivate, especially the Plane trees arching over to shade the path that runs alongside the lake. On Thursday while walking through the park I spotted the nesting boxes high up in the leafy treetops.. placed there to encourage peep-wrens (pardalotes) and bats to breed in the park. The peep-wrens are so sweet, not so much the bats :) and according to the link could be breeding, I think I might have to take a book, a flask of coffee and channel my inner (birding) patience to see if I can capture some shots! Hope you have a wonderful Sunday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. I should probably add a tripod to the list of birding necessities :)

  1. Well, the bats do a nice job in keeping the bugs in check, so I've always liked them.

  2. I'm a bit scared of bats...I'm sure with a lot of time and patience you'll find some birds coming and going to feed their young.

  3. Those peep-wrens might be sweet but those bats will eat all those nasty flying insects.

  5. The trees must provide some welcome shade in your hot weather. I'm glad they host nest boxes too, though I have no idea what a peep-wren is!

  6. So beautiful an area...what's wrong with bats? They're great for the ecology and eat lots of bugs and don't bite ... I don't eat bugs, so why do people call me "batty"?

  7. I hope your patience is rewarded.
For myself I am always keen to take pictures of birds...

  8. Two of my favorite summer subjects here. The plane trees keep the roads nice and shady while the bats eat their weight in mosquitoes.

  9. Peep wren sounds like a sophisticated put-down, LOL. Love walking here 'neith the plane trees with you. I fancy some plain trees now and then, Mon Ami

  11. Beautiful trees Grace. Hope you can get some good pictures of the birds. We've been watching several pairs of nesting eagles and their eaglets.

  13. The trees are nice and big, look beautiful and offer lots of shade. Bats, I have not seen up close but admire their appetite of bugs because I don't care for bugs.
    Enjoy your day Grace!

  15. Bird or a bat in a box. You could make up a children's song about that.

  17. Fine looking nesting boxes. Appears there is a camera attached to the first one. Perhaps there is research going on? Yes, a tripod and long lens would be great.

  19. That's a beautiful tree canopy -- love it! I think you're ready and able to channel your inner birding patience to get some great shots of the peep-wrens. (No need to bother with the bats...ew!)
