Perth lights up.. from behind!

I've often wondered what it would be like to take photos of Skyworks from behind the city skyscrapers instead of in front along the river. In past years we've always made the mad dash down to get a good spot along the foreshore amongst the many thousands of Perthites who have the same idea.. this year with the construction (?) of Elizabeth Quay space would be tight! Not a fan of tight space :) Aimee and I decided this was the year to try out the reverse option and these shots were taken from the 13th floor of One40William looking over Hay St. and St. Georges Terrace towards Riverside Drive and the Swan River. Not my best firework shots but I kind of like the 'deserted city' viewpoint and... no other people, that was niiiiice! Hope you're having a good weekend, it's a holiday today here in Australia, so big catch up :) Take care and stay safe.....

  4. Very nice. Great timing on getting the bursts. Next year you need to go atop the tall building and shoot watching from above.

  16. You caught the fireworks well. You must have found the fireworks setting on your camera. Well, I suspect that might be beneath your dignity.

  17. These are fabulous, Grace! Well done. When I was in Ohio, my office was on the top floor of a skyscraper along a river, where the fireworks were shot off. We always opened the offices to employees and their families, so they could see them from way up high. I hated it! You could see the fireworks but couldn't hear them. After watching them from inside one year, all future years I let others use my office while I went outside and watched them from ground level in the middle of the crowd.

  18. The city in the foreground adds to the scene even if they are blocking some of the bursts.
I still haven't mastered good fireworks shots.

  19. Specky shots, did you have the radio on? Rocking music!! As I do when I get that little bit older, I watched it in TV. Can't believe Skyworks has been going for 30 years!

  21. A spectacular result, but it could lead you to think that Perth has become the setting for a Japanese monster movie.

  22. Lovely idea and a different perspective of Skyworks. We went to Fremantle, but I must say they are a bit shabby compared to the Perth ones.

  25. Excellent choice of viewpoint. Somehow it reminds me of when I was three years old and watched the fireworks being let off in the garden from the safety of the kitchen window - I didn't like the bangs back then!
