In Como a few days ago to take pics of a particular mural on the side wall of the fabulous Cygnet Cinema. Opened in 1938 and built in my beloved Art Deco style, there is no enhancement here, it really is that pink :) Now safely on the State Heritage Register. Still a working cinema with two up to date movies playing at all times. So many fabulous Deco features inside, I wondered if they would miss one of the many gorgeous mirrors.. kidding.. or am I :) Happy weekend, take care and stay safe.. P.s. Do you have a particular style of architecture that you love as much as I do Art Deco?
A smashing kind of place! Wow!
ReplyDeleteWhatever style of architecture is appropriate for other buildings Art Deco is always just right for cinemas.
ReplyDeleteI love anything Art Deco but also have a set spot for Modernist design, Grace!
ReplyDelete...a classy classic.
ReplyDeletewow, this post is a time machine! cool! ew
ReplyDeleteArt Deco is also one of my favorite architectural styles. Yes, they would immediately miss one of their mirrors, and would be looking for you. Good to know it is still an active movie theater.
ReplyDeleteI remember places like this from my youth. Minneapolis had several multi-tiered movie palaces built in this style. They were magnificent as is this one. Love the pink!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous cinema. We had three in the town I grew up in and they looked like this photo, it's so elegant looking. Art Deco is one of my favorites too. I'm glad there is still a lot of love for this particular style and they are still valuable in today's world.
ReplyDeleteHi Grace, I forgot to tell you I really disliked that movie! :)))
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful building inside and out. I think you already guessed that art deco was my favorite also.
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful and clearly not owned by someone who doesn't care.
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous and great that it being looked after. Love the deco. Have a great weekend Diane
ReplyDeleteVery whimsical and fun. I am a fan of anything old....Not n love with steel and glass.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty Grace, love the building and the Art Deco!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful theater, but...are they showing California Typewriter?
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty building...Coffee is on
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure! I'm a fan of Art Deco. So many of these older theaters have been torn down here. I still mourn a fabulous Fox theater in San Francisco that was destroyed for a terrible urban "renewal" project when I was a child.
ReplyDeleteWow Great.
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty cool, Grace - I love it!
ReplyDeleteUm belo cinema e gostei da decoração interior.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e bom fim-de-semana.

Both the interior furnishings and the exterior make this an unusually attractive building.!
ReplyDeleteI've said it many times before, but I'll say it again: I love anything Art Deco--even in pink!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the Hawaii Theater.... a golden age
ReplyDeleteGreat architecture it is.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, and I'm glad to see it is well-cared for. Does the government contribute to the maintenance expenses?
ReplyDeleteIt does look a very nice building, and pink is my favourite colour!
