Master of suspense!

When asked to give one word to describe Alfred Hitchcock 'genius' was high on the list, along with a few 'creepy and bizarre' :) The incroyable portrait here on the wall of the Art Deco Cygnet Cinema that I showed here, painted in 2013 by artist extraordinaire Nils Westergard conveys that typically sardonic Hitchcock expression perfectly. At first I thought the wings in the top corner were a clever nod to one of Hitchcock's most well known movies The Birds, but no, if you look at the link you will see that this symbol appears on many of the artist's murals. Definitely worth a trip to Como to see this one. Happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

  8. Yes, the artist did capture the essence of the man very well. He put together some fantastic movies...did not like The Birds, but did enjoy North by Northwest.

  13. How great! And, perfect for the side of movie theatre. He made the kind of scary movies I can actually watch.

  14. Hitchcock, one of the finest. Team him up with Edgar Allen Poe and we would have had some really extreme movies. I loved the birds. One thing I did not like he never ended anything. It was just quit, and leave the ending to us.

  16. That drippy technique suits the subject very well. I've enjoyed much of his work but sometimes the acting seems very stilted. I understand he was a real stickler for how his actors were to act and what we see is exactly what he wanted. (BTW: You asked the other day if I shoot handheld with the big new lens. So far it's about all handheld. A friend just gave me an old monopod which I may soon try.)

  19. A man of many talents, but if gossip is to be believed, I wonder how he would fare if some of his behaviour was unmasked, as is happening currently to others in the entertainment world?

  21. Ohhh, Grace, that movie freaked me out as a kid!
As still does the related dolphin-"hommage" of The Simpsons.
Uhhh, just like "The Fog" - I really do wonder why my parents let me watch movies like that!

Great mural for a cinema for sure.
