Don't you love it when you come across a different view of a building you've seen many times before. Last weekend I saw this view of St. Mary's Cathedral on the hill rising above construction work happening on Hay Street. Rounding onto Victoria St. below this view of the new curved expansion completed in 2009. If you check the above link in the '1999 to present' building phase you will read that there can often be 'unexpected' finds under the floorboards when an old church building is being restored.. go on you know you have to see what was under there now :)
The shot below taken from the steps of St. Mary's Cathedral looking back to the church administration building (heritage) and the city.. Hope you're having a good weekend, happy Sunday, take care and stay safe...
A lot of depth here in these photos….. Gr8 Capture
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely cathedral!! Ah, and perfect against your beautiful blue, blue skies!! Great captures for the day, Grace, as always!! I hope you're enjoying a great weekend!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful church and as Sylvia said the blue skies are beautiful too. All we have is gray and rain. That keeps us green though.

That is a beautiful building...been a long time coming. I wonder if those dead bishops turned over in their graves a few times during the down times? :)
ReplyDeleteGreat building. Beautiful shots.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a super day too. I love the tree in the last image.
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy visiting you and Perth

Everything looks so lush Grace! And now you even have a crypt!
ReplyDeleteGlorious tree in that last frame.
ReplyDeleteIt really is beautiful architecture!
ReplyDeleteThe modern extension to the church works quite well. Dead bishops under the floorboards sounds a little macabre.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful Grace.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I've not gotten back to blogging because I'm still playing mechanic.
It is a beautiful cathedral Grace. Of course I had to go to your link! Very interesting history.
ReplyDeleteThe cathedral is such an elegant building!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful building, Grace!
ReplyDeleteOh, I see, just like the Monty Python dead bishop sketch. Or was it a parrot?
ReplyDeleteSuch nice views of the cathedral, the sun, the palmtrees....
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty view and a lovely blue sky.
ReplyDeleteThat's a fine building and I like the modern extensions which seem to blend in nicely. English churches often have dead clergy under the floor, though we usually have the decency to put a slab of stone on top.
ReplyDeleteLooks like this lovely church has evolved over the years.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful church!
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful view of this gorgeous church.
ReplyDeleteFine! Even the modern addition is tasteful, G

Grace, you really made me read the article, that´s how curious I got - you´re a great writer :-)
ReplyDeleteBtw... we´ve been in Perth in 1999 and 2006.
And never noticed, bu-huu!
Did they lock you out if this one also...?
ReplyDeleteThe cathedral is a grand and impressive building. Not often you see a two or more toned facade on a cathedral.
ReplyDeleteGreat building Grace, I'll be checking under my floorboards just in case...
ReplyDeleteQuite a structure!
ReplyDeletePerfect shots - them bones, them bones gonna walk around!
ReplyDeleteIt's a stunning church Grace, beautifully captured by you. I love the modern curved addition to - it works really well.
ReplyDeleteit really is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise to find all those remains! Incredible that no one new they were there until the renovations!
