Things that caught my eye in Fremantle..

A few things that caught my eye on our visit to the port city of Fremantle on Tuesday.. walking along the South Mole the view above of the WA Maritime Museum.. with HMAS Ovens resting on the historic WW11 submarine slipway at the side. If I wasn't so claustrophobic I would love to take one of the guided tours through the submarine.. can't imagine what it must have been like for long periods. Had a bit of a play with settings on my Olympus for the shot above.Meanwhile when we arrived to park and pay.. this is the first time I've seen meters where you have to key in your car registration number.. so much info just to park, do you have these in your city?

Below the bathing belles of the Bathers Beach House check out the link to see the gorgeous Art Deco style building..

Moi cosying up to an Italian fisherman in the boat harbour below, my favourite fishing vessels in the background..

School excursion Aussie style.. the Maritime Museum to the left, artists studios centre and the Round House, built in 1830 and the oldest building still standing in WA to the right..

Many school bands were busking around Freo on Tuesday, here a group warming up beside The Monk on South Terrace..

I have to stop sometime, so I'll end with a view down South Terrace aka the cappuccino strip.. if you pull in the poster on the lampost you'll see that not much has changed. Fremantle definitely values it's heritage buildings so much more than Perth city, which is a shame. As you can see it was cloudy and grey, they've been predicting rain for days now.. still waiting! Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe... p.s. how much fun was it to see everyone's 'shy self-portrait' yesterday :)

  2. I think that is the area my friend stays in when he has his yearly trip to your neck of the woods. It looks like a great place.

  6. Great photos today. I feel like I've had a little tour around Freemantle. I haven't seen any meters like the one you have pictured but, I do know that our downtown has installed new individual parking meters that take credit cards and have these tiny little digital read-outs that I can't see without the old reading glasses.

  7. Merci pour la promenade Grace ! The first one and the Italian fisherman with the pretty shy blonde are my favourites! :-)

No way. We don't have them yet (though in Quimper at one point you got 15 minutes free every day for short stays and you had to enter your car registration number...

  8. I have been on the submarine, it’s an excellent experience, as was the prison tour. The Maritime Museum is lovely. I have a photo of myself, my daughter and her partner next to a sculpture of a fisherman carrying a basket on his shoulder. I adore Fremantle. They had those parking meters back where I used to live, they were introduced to prevent people giving unexpired tickets away. They were very unpopular and most people continued to pass on their unexpired tickets anyway! A lovely post Grace x

  11. 1st pic, what a strange looking place. The submariners of WW2 would have an opinion on that.
Super place for the photographer Freemantle it appears.

  13. Love the museum building. You live in a very beautiful and interesting place. Really proves Florida is boring.

  14. The building reminds me of Jules Verne's Nautilus in 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

  17. I'm loving that first shot. Your striking tint gives it a historic quality - almost like I'm looking at some kind of WW2 scene. As for the number plate parking - never heard of that. It seems awfully complicated and would put me off - how about an app where you just submit a photo of your number plate?

  20. Amazing first photo. Visiting a sub is interesting as you have to duck all the time going through the bulkheads and there is no room to swing a cat in either. Had the key in you number machines for a wil over here

  22. Looks like you were really out and about! I love your picture with the Italian fisherman. Statues like that just call out for a photo, eh? ;-)

  28. I like history so would love to tour the museum. YES, I do know of a parking place that makes you key in your license plate. I had to park first, then go back to get the ticket. Last time I was there I had to run back and make sure I was keying in the right letters and numbers. :))

  30. Wow, that is a great first shot, Grace!
I did dare visit some submarines in Wilhelmshaven. Must´ve awful to be in there... especially for tall men.
Love the pic with you and the fisherman!
Yes, Freo is special, I agree, oh, I can send some hail over, if you like, btw. Or snow....

  31. In do like the setting on your camera. No we do not have meters like that. We are in a large city. I don't think I have paid for parking here ever....even in the parking garages downtown. they are free after 5pm and weekends. love the bathing beauties!

  33. I LOVE that first shot - as an Olympus devotee (albeit entry-level only) I'm not surprised this is what came out of your camera. What model are you using?? Can't believe that parking meter nonsense ... but I'll bet it's on it's way to Adelaide NOW!!
