What do you think.. worth the hike? Our main destination on this visit to John Forrest National Park, after checking in with the rangers was Hovea Falls on Jane Brook.. alive with colour at this time of the year, and lucky for us the water was flowing.. after a hot summer this scene can be very different!
It was while taking the shot below that I ran into a spot of bother :) Not realizing until it was too late that I was standing on top of an ants nest.. not wee little ants, big 'angry at being stepped on' red fire ants.. 'if a more at home in the city gal shrieks in the forest will she be heard'.. the answer is yes, yes she will :) You can see one of the nests in the last shot, these ants are a real problem, especially when they are all over your legs..my très rapide reaction saved me from serious nips! Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..
You lucky thing!
ReplyDeleteWell apart from the ants...
and I heard the scream!
Yep, heard the scream, too!! But, in spite of the ants, what a beautiful place to hike to!! I love the rushing water!! Sounds as if your week is off to a great start!! Keep an eye out for more ants!!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least you got the photos, right? Stupid ants! :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't like the look of those ants at all, but I like everything else you've shown us. Well worth the hike I should say.
ReplyDeleteLovely views but not lovely ants! They look quite creepy, Grace.

ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful! Have a great time.
ReplyDeleteWell worth the hike, Grace! Nasty little blighters, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteNature is fun to look at, but you don't want it crawling on you. It is a beautiful park just so I don't run into fire ants. Great shots, especially the one of the ant.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely worth the hike, except for the ants! We have what we call fire ants here too, but they look a bit different.
ReplyDeleteJ 'adore ça . Ces paysages sont merveilleux et surtout les couleurs. Je t'embrasse.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty place, Grace. And your postcard-worthy photos are excellent.
ReplyDeleteThese are absolutely gorgeous. It makes me want to go hiking with my gear now...
ReplyDeleteYikes! I was going to say this looked like parts of Colorado until you got to the bit about the fire ants. As in Monty Python: Run away! Run away!
ReplyDeleteA very nice area although I don't think it would look so good late summer. I did not realise fire ants were in WA. Nasty.
ReplyDeleteWonderful landscape photography Grace. Really beautiful. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteThis trail is wonderful , Gracie ! What fabulous landscapes ! But , about the ants ... I heard you from here !! :o) Would have run verrrrrry fast !
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures of the country side there. So much colours.
ReplyDeleteugh, fire ants are horrible! we don't have them here in virginia but they were a real problem in georgia :/ definitely worth the hike though, sorry about the ant bites!
ReplyDeletehow fortunate you are that you escaped the fire ants in time...my last encounter with fire ants resulted in a trip to the Emergency Room and in my now carrying Benadryl with me at all times!!
ReplyDeleteyour shots are fabulous, water falls are one of my favorite things :)
What a place!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had some fun here. Very cool!
You got some pretty fantastic photos here in spite of your encounter with the fire ants. I'm glad you were quick to react to those angry pests. I love the red coloring to rocks in the third photo!
ReplyDeleteThe first picture looks like a photograph of the paradise, the 3rd picture is simply unique and fantastic and in the last one somebody forgot the camera...
ReplyDeleteLovely place for a hike. Those ants looks nasty! My husband always manages to get bitten by ants even in our garden, resulting in very itchy and swollen feet!
ReplyDeleteIt's enough to put a 'city girl' right off! Ha-Ha... amazed you did it, Grace. :-)
ReplyDeleteThese landscapes have got gorgeous colours! Arianna
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place! Well worth the hike. Sorry about the ants, I know how painful their stings are.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely was worth the hike because of the spectacular scenery and varied colors.
ReplyDeleteEwww, they do look nasty and huge, Grace, those ants. But the waterfall and colors - so worth it :-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I want to be there!
