Perthwatch I .....

In the quieter periods when the weather isn't quite hot enough for the masses this would have to be a pretty sweet gig, but in full summer when the beaches in Perth are hectic there would definitely be no time to sit and ruminate. There's the swimmers who think they can handle the strong rips in the 'no swim' areas getting themselves into strife, the people who come inadequately prepared for the heat and suffer heat stroke and dehydration and of course there's the ever present danger of sharks swimming close to shore in the warmer months.  The lifeguards, beach inspectors and helicopter patrols of  Surf Life Saving WA do a very fine job and the beaches are a much safer place thanks to them. Still....that's not too shabby an outlook in those quieter moments oui!!

  4. These guys do a great job of looking after your beautiful beaches so it's good to see this guy is able to enjoy the surrounds without the stress!

  5. I agree, in the quieter months, I could handle sitting on the beach and watching the waves.

  6. Looks like a great beach. There's no accounting for the stupidity of some people.

  7. Such a gorgeous beach, breathtaking, rolling surf and superb colors! Doesn't bet any better even if the sharks do slip by looking for a snack!! Terrific captures as always, Grace! Hope your week is off to a great start! Enjoy!

  9. Well, here's something that won't happen in Seattle in January: risking dehydration and heat stroke. More like risking drowning... ;-) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

  10. There must be loads of stress on these lifeguards. They don't know from minute to minute whether they will be challenged to save a life. (And, risk their own.)

  11. Lifeguards with surfboards? Perhaps a bit of extra fun added to the job. But sharks close to shore? I'd like directions to the pool.

  12. I have to agree that first shot is great!

  13. People must have rocks in their heads to go swimming in no swim areas or outside the flags :-)..

  14. wish I were there...not to swim of course...just to look!

  15. Seems to me it would take tons of skill and not a little courage to swim and rescue in these waters.

  16. For some, this wonderful beach and no swimming must be quite frustrating. But the only idea of sharks is enough for me! I'd be happy only to admire the landscape!

  17. Is he straightening the seam in his stocking? It is surprising how many people die by drowning in these modern times.

  18. I'd be happily sitting on the edge being washed over by these crashing waves!

  19. Ici, sur la côte d'azur, les vagues ne sont pas suffisamment importantes pour le surf. Seulement pour la planche à voile.
    Bonne journée ensoleillée, Gracie!

  21. Yes, I am sure there is glamour attached to the job and some fabulous perks, but it's the ultimate in responsibilty- saving lives. Lovley post Grace and the blue seas made my day!

  22. Haha! Looks like he's obeying the 'no swimming' sign by DRIVING into the surf instead!! All jokes aside, I'm SO glad they're there ...

  24. What a view! If it weren't for the sharks, I would be in there all day...within the boundaries, of course ;D

  27. Wow! An enviable job.... but then again they are saving people's lives so they deserve a few perks :-)

  30. Nice beach. I was afraid of sharks. I do not swim in these places. Just sweep your feet on the edge when it's hot. Regards Peter.

  36. It always surprises me how silly some people are around open water... No wonder there are so many accidents and deaths. The lifesavers do a fantastic job, but ultimately it is a matter of personal responsibility too, I think.

  38. The water looks gorgeously clean, Grace. Shame about all the 'menace' just lurking in the shallows.
