It's all in the wrist action.....!!
A few weeks ago when we were crossing over the Narrows bridge I spotted this chap doing a bit of 'fly fishing' off a sandy bank beside the Swan River.. I've seen many fishermen casting off along the beaches and jetty's, but not until watching how he carefully selected and attached the 'fly', the light flicking back and forth wrist action did I appreciate the difference in style. Apparently in early summer, flathead and flounder spread themselves over the shallow sand flats and channels and schools of tailor swim downstream, there's also the chance of small mulloway and black bream for the skilled fly fisherman! I'm pretty happy with this shot, but oh how I wish I'd got the TIP of the rod in haha!! Still it is watery and it is Wednesday, so it's all good.....!!

ReplyDeleteWonderful Watery Wednesday view! Were you up in a tree with a BIG zoom lens for that photo?!
ReplyDeletePlease take a look at my Brazilian friend's new CDP blog: Laranjeiras do Sul Daily photo
how wonderful it must be to stand there, fime floating by. thank you much for this escape.
ReplyDeleteIt's an excellent shot. You don't need any tips; you know what you're doing! :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you got the fisherman in the light. Fly fishing takes some practice. I was never very good at it.
Tell you a story, though, about our eldest daughter who, when a child, thoroughly enjoyed just about everything, esp. fishing. On one of her first fishing excursions, she was standing at the end of a pier with a little rod and reel...she got a bite and began to reel it in. When she saw a fish on the end of her line, she screamed, and threw rod and reel into the water. I had to go swimming to "fish" it out!
Good action capture.
ReplyDeleteYou should be proud of this shot, it's fabulous. The light on the water is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteYou need to be patient to do this. I would probably give up after five minutes. But I do find it interesting to talk to these guys.
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed a superb capture, Grace! And perfect for the Watery Day! Hope your week is going well! Enjoy!

That is very good.. you should see if a fly fishing magazine would publish it!
ReplyDeleteExcellent shot! I always think that fly fishing looks so romantic in a sentimental sort of way if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteLove this shot Grace. I don't think I have the patience to fish.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely catch (the picture)
ReplyDeleteI believe there are books and books written on "how to fish"
Wow!
ReplyDeleteGreat pic :)
Just in the right moment!!!
Abrazos!
Amazing shot. Can't wait to take my first ever photography class over the next few months. Clearly, i have a lot to learn ;-) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a terrific shot, full of energy and brilliant color. I don't know a thing about fishing. There were plenty of waterways in the area where I grew up but you wouldn't want to eat anything you caught in New York City's rivers and bays.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the water!

Picture very special!
ReplyDeleteWell this has to be my favorite of your shots now! That is just amazing. The water looks more like a watercolor! Bravo.
ReplyDeleteExcellent Watery Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteI have not tried fly fishing as it requires more time and skill than I have to spare. But it loos so graceful that I envy the practitioners. I understand that it takes an almost zen like concentration.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture, Grace! Love all those quicksilvery reflections in that water.
ReplyDeleteLovely image. I am pleased you admired his skill, because I am worried about his possessions. Obviously, he has something of worth in his backpack to have it on in the water rather than leave it at the edge. I do hope he did not slip o the muddy bottoms.
ReplyDeleteooh that is too wet for me! Love the swirling water but wouldn't wish to get too close.
ReplyDeleteGreat water wavelets effects here. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the movie "a river runs through it", with Brad Pitt.. very nice shot!
ReplyDeleteWow Grace. Great photograph. Great subject for a painting. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteSchönes Bild gut getroffen.

This is a very nice image. I have never ried fly fishing, but I know people who are very devoted to it.
ReplyDeleteIt happens: I (unwillingly) cut almost everithing... A great picture!
ReplyDeleteFabulous shot Grace. I haven't seen fly rushing there before. Well spotted.
ReplyDeletegood shot here pdp, i hope he caught something rewarding. ^0^
ReplyDeleteIt seems an impressionist painting! Arianna
ReplyDeletepicture perfect.I love water.
ReplyDeleteI find the ripples on the water quite hypnotic, hope he had success!
ReplyDeleteFabulous catch .. I wonder how it is someone with an aversion to water gets such amazing water related photos!
