Movies, mirrors and reflections.....

Yesterday I went to see 'The Women on the 6th Floor' a new French movie at Cinema Paradiso on James Street in Northbridge. It's such a great place to see alternate and foreign movies. There are four small theatres, they all used to have glamorous movie star names like 'the Sophia Loren Theatre', but now unfortunately they are just 1,2,3 and 4..pourquoi, je ne comprends pas!  It's still a super place, kind of dark and atmospheric, all mirrors, glass and low lighting and now fully licensed, so if you wanted to you could sip a glass of vino while you watch a movie, but contraire to what you might have heard (four glasses of champers at NY quel horreur!), I don't actually drink very often and I know for sure if I drank a glass of wine in the movies I'd be asleep before the title credits finished rolling, heck sometimes I fall asleep even without the vino!! I can absolutely recommend the movie if you're after something light and amusing, I love  French  humor, c'est très drôle.....! I hope you have some good laughs this weekend.....p.s. can you spot my 'pins' in the reflections below?

  2. What a great theatre that is! It reminds me of ones I used to frequent when I was on assignment in St. Louis Missouri. One of our theatres here just became "fully licensed" as you say and now serves wine and food with waiters actually coming to your seat to take your order. Couple that with the huge, plush reclining seats and you have a fantastic experience. Make me think of flying first class.
Nice "pins" by the way. :-) Have a great weekend.

  3. That is indeed a great looking theater and sounds like a fun night out! I rarely go to movies anymore, they're way too expensive, and the normal Hollywood movie generally leaves me pretty bored or annoyed, but then I don't watch TV either. People around here are always asking me what I do all day and evening???? Hard to explain that I do stay busy ALL the time. But if I had access to theaters like yours and the ones Sharon wrote about, I think I might change my life style somewhat! Happy Weekend, Grace!!

  5. I fall asleep watching movies on TV even without the wine so I would have to skip that too. Nice looking theatre & pins!

  6. Those reflections make a wonderful lighting effect. I can't remember the last time I went to the movies. Grudge paying that much for a film. There aren't many that appeal, either. I prefer live theatre and have picked up tickets to a couple of the more obscure Festival of Sydney shows (the ones I really wanted booked out very early on).

I once went into a french movie, and slept for two hours.

  9. A fun venue. In such elegant surroundings you can make believe you're French. We have an old Masonic temple that's been converted to a movie theater, furnished with sofas instead of the usual seats. Full bar, of course, plus pool tables and a bowling alley.

  16. Yes I miss movies in the cinema, especially when I was a kid sitting on the top deck and flicking ice cream on the heads below!

  17. I found the film a bit disappointing, the ending mainly. Just incongruous that he would follow the servant back to Spain and his wife do something equivalent in the opposite direction. It is just another mistake, not the same one, but a different one. But still a mistake. I think it worked on caricatures.

  18. Yes I like those small theaters, it has a special atmosphere. We have some in Amsterdam too.

  19. Why not set up a movement to reclaim the exotic cinema names?? A building THAT atmospheric has GOT to work better with more picturesque-sounding accoutrements!!!
