Walking around Herdsman Lake..

Before picking up my tulips from the flower market, yesterday's post, we walked around Herdsman Lake. We often start off at the same spot and I always check to see if Norman the nankeen night heron is in his usual spot and there he was giving me the side-eye as if to say 'what, you again with the camera, enough already'.. never enough Norman :)

Sitting atop a tree in the lake a white heron looking decidedly phantom. How majestic it looks sitting there surveying the scene before flying off to pastures greener..

We caught up with the heron at the waters edge, the herons are fascinating to watch. Their necks, elegantly curved as they stare intently into the water, then stretch out to an astoundingly long length before plunging into the water..  unlucky on this occasion.

You may remember the last time we walked here I was one step away from standing on a tiger snake, I won't make that mistake again. Danger that you are aware of is easier to deal with and this walk is far too pretty to give up, sturdier shoes and attention to where you step is the order of the day. 100% chance of rain for the next two days, looking forward to it :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

  1. Those herons make for very good company while out on a walk.

  2. Beautiful area. Reminds me of Florida, but there the sign would state Beware of Alligators.

  5. Snakes shuffle! They were at our temporary California home. Just benign ones I think, but it was rattler range too! Glad to be back in my snake free Islands.

  6. Love the pix of the heron. There's a handsome Great Blue Heron that visits the pond here regularly every evening looking for dinner, and he looks very well fed. I saw him catch a little fish a couple of days ago.

  8. Normal sounds like quite the character. Glad you found him in his usual place. The White Heron is a gracefully beautiful bird. Your photos are terrific. I had to read about the Tiger Snake, and would think twice before walking here, and would definitely carry a walking stick.

  9. The night heron doesn't look very heron like. White herons look very elegant.

  13. My three say hi to the one in the first pic, Grace
Wow, that the tree holds the heron like that! Fun last shot if him/her.

Ohhhh rain, lucky you, enjoy!!! Here it´s stormy and cold as if it was autumn. Still Gurri-time and I was still freezing without glovies. Inside the store the staff run around in T-shirts! I hate that. You get cooked and outside you freeze even more.

I shudder at the though of stepping on a snake!
