Highway to Hell..

The sculpture above titled 'Rock Base' was created by Perth Sculptor Jason Maxlow and is part of a series of artworks in the Canning Bridge Art Trail. You might have guessed by the title that the inspiration for the sculpture, in this location, makes a reference to 'a local story that this stretch of Canning Highway is said to be the Highway to Hell, go on have a listen :) that inspired the AC/DC song by Bon Scott, a frequenter of the nearby Raffles Hotel' below. Thankfully the hotel's Art Deco facade, added in 1937, was saved by the Art Deco Society when past owners were keen to demolish it.. unbelievable oui! Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

  1. I'd have thought that the highway to hell would have had more traffic on it.

  3. Highway to Hell was a big money maker for me in my days as a "dancer" in the bars in Honolulu! If you have Amazon Prime you can read my book all about those times FREE! "Aloha Where You Like Go?" Thanks for the memories (and letting me post about my book here, Grace)

  5. I LOVE the look of that hotel. It would have been a crime to destroy it. An interesting sculpture too.

  13. Highway to Hell obviously is having a slow day. Maybe they're heading to the stairway to heaven instead. :)

  15. Really Grace the Highway to Hell is only about an hour away from where I live. We just visited Hell this past summer.

Sure is a neat guitar and wonderful building.

I'm only playing with words since there is a village named Hell near-by.

  16. I like it. But, gee, I thought the highway to hell was either the Cross-Bronx Expressway (a misnomer if there ever was one) or the Santa Monica Freeway in LA.

  17. The Highway to Hell looks surprisingly bright and picturesque! (BTW, to respond to your question - a snowpack of 268% above normal is like money in the bank. The more the better. It assures more water supplies as it melts during warmer months.)
