Driving home along the coast road yesterday it was impossible to ignore the mammoth out to sea! For once I had my zoom lens AND tripod, which was just as well as the wind was blowing so fiercely it almost lifted me off my feet! Considering the 21,129 tonne, 107 x 101m oil rig the Ocean Monarch was roughly 6/9km out to sea, I was pretty ok with these shots. Anchored off-shore for maintenance work the Ocean Monarch featured in the action movie Armageddon.. hopefully it's stay in Perth waters will not be as dramatic :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..
What a claim to fame, Armageddon, I remember the movie.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics, Grace! What a sea!
ReplyDeleteNice photos Grace! That thing is a behemoth. Such a rough ocean with the wind.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots Grace! I love the photobombers.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is so far away. Your dislike of being on the water in a craft would be quite justified in this case.
ReplyDelete...fly,fly away.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, those are fantastic shots. You can see how windy it was by the choppy water.
ReplyDeleteThat is huge!
ReplyDeleteIt is a special combination, the huge oil moloch at the horizon and the thin wind surfers.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos, Grace. The sea looks a bit rough due to the high winds.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures, Grace! Love the juxtaposition of the two in the rough waters!
ReplyDeleteGreat work Grace. I like the way the paraglider person makes the entire scene look surreal. Maybe they will give the Ocean Monarch a test run where it is and they will strike oil.
ReplyDeleteI love these shots with the wind-surfer and massive rig. I always like seeing ocean photos since I live so far from it!
ReplyDeleteFine telephoto shots. The wind surfer is one brave, skilled fellow. His sail did not hurt your pictures. Love the second one.
ReplyDeleteWow amazing pics. Superb captured.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots with the windsurfer's sail in front.
ReplyDeleteFotos espectaculares.
ReplyDeleteContinuação de boa semana.

Extra bonus for adding the windsurfer in the shots.
ReplyDeleteI love Armageddon--the movie, not the final battle of good and not so good. How cool!
ReplyDeleteIt sure looks impressive, Grace, and it´s a movie star kinda, too :-)
ReplyDeleteA great background for those "photobombers"!
You say the oil rig is anchored for maintenance which implies it will move to another site. Is it self-propelled or moved with tugs?
ReplyDeleteLook at that rough water!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just hate that?
ReplyDeleteYour blog is very useful for me,Thanks for your sharing.
