'Please hand in your penguin when finished'..

That's not something you hear everyday :) We're into the second week of school hols here in Australia and there's lots of fun stuff for kids and parents to do together.. in the suburbs and in the city. The newly opened amphitheater at Hillarys Boat Harbour has been transformed into a floating ice rink  from the 1 - 17th July. We've been talking a bit about snow in the last couple of posts.. Frostival promotes 'skiing just metres away from the ocean, whilst snow falls all around you'. I can't catch a break, I even missed the fake snow :)

10C and the coats, scarves and beanies are out, I think we're pretty tough us Aussies, but when it comes to cold weather we're a bunch of light weights :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe...

  1. Skating Down Under! Very cool!

If I were around there, the temps would probably have me in shirt sleeves.

  2. It looks sorta cool...the rink is very cool, and the penguins are delightful! It took me a bit to figure out what they were all about or used for. They make for cute little helpers for newbies on skates. Kinda of like training wheel on bicycles. :)

  4. I'd need something a bit more substantial than a penguin to hang on to - an elephant perhaps????

  5. Do those penguins come in extra-large?

  6. These shots look like they could be taken here in January. 10˚C can be cold if it is windy! We are heading for 32˚C and very humid so it won't be fun later this afternoon -it's the humidity that gets to us here.

  8. You are bravely coping with the winter. Love those pinguins, we always use a chair on the ice here. Here we have one day summer and than four days rain, a miserable summer so far :(

  9. What a pity your granddaughter is so far away as you would be the perfect person to introduce her to the delights of ice skating.

  10. I remember growing up in Illinois. If it got to 10c in the winter we would be in shirtsleeves and have the top down on the convertible. After 40 years of living in the desert, I'm right there with you, scarves, hats, sweaters and coats.

  11. I was never good ice skating but I did roller skate though. One blade vs. four wheels. I was better with the wheels. I didn't have a penguin to skate with though. Great activity for the youngsters!

Many of our towns put in these ice rinks at Christmas time, the grand-kids love it!

  15. You folks surely ARE tough! But I have recently learned myself how tropical people can find winter temps VERY de-stabilizing! Threw my health for a loop! I am acclimatizing and expect next winter to be easier and so on. Even Mediterranean winter here in N. Calif was something for me after 30 years of Hawaii temps and humidity!

  25. Yes. We have a little skate rink + penguins in Melbourne. Nothing like imagining snow and ice in cold weather - and we have had plenty of that lately in my world.
