Stop the hate, equal marriage rights..

I was going to go with the title 'Love is Love' but I see Aimee is one step ahead of me :) Slightly different viewpoints of the rally for marriage equality in Northbridge on Sunday. I elbowed my way up on to the podium to get a better view out over the sea of supporters, boys, girls, mums, dads, uncles, aunts, nans and grandads, who despite the rain turned out to make their view known to our less than forward thinking Prime Minister Tony Abbott..we can only hope that at some point he will be man enough to say ok lets put this right.

The statement 'your life won't change but my life will' pretty much sums it up..  my personal view is that marriage is a little out-dated.. shock, horror, gasp :) but you should certainly have the choice to marry the one you love if that's your wish. The event was well covered.. more so than Aimee and I who were umbrella-less, eventually taking shelter under a friend's substantial sized brolly, merci beaucoup Jim :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe...

If Aimee can end with a gratuitous gorgeous doggy shot then so can I :)

  1. Ah, I do feel the same way, Grace!! People -- all people -- should have their choice and who are we to tell them what their choice "should be"??? Great captures for the day, as always!! Hope you have a great new week!!

  2. In the end it's a civil rights issue, and everybody should be treated equaly. Love your festive images and of course the cute dog as well.

  3. I'm with you Grace - I don't feel any need to get married (even though it is legal here) but it's good to know that others can if it's important to them. Good to see some moisture in Perth!

  4. With that kind of support equality will come to Australia soon, Grace!

  5. Like I said on Aimée's blog, it's a world wide wave...

  7. Ah, we tried a PM called Tony - that didn't work out too well either.

  8. Love all the colors. I think it's rather humorous that many of those opposed to same-sex marriage, who speak of how marriage is between one man and one woman, who claim that the definition of marriage was handed down by a deity in olden times and has never changed, simply fail to read their religious books very carefully. Abraham had several wives and mistresses as did all the patriarchs. King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. The earliest Biblical mythologies describe the creation of Adam and Eve but the never saw fit to get married, they just lived together, in sin. Yikes! And Cain must have married his sister as no other women had been created at that time.

    Isn't this fun?

    1. Dieties indeed. Humans have believed in these mythical magical creatures for centuries. Humans interpret these ancient stories and bend them to their own will or societal need at/of the time. The ancient gods are no different than the current gods worshipped by so many people on this planet. If you were a Catholic, you'd follow only the New Testament:) Or at least that's what they told me when I was forced to attend Catholic school. I follow none of that silly stuff:)

  9. Thank you Grace! The Prime Minister is a nitwit over there. Here the conservatives believe that it's a religious right. It's not. It's about being protected. When I'm sick or need financial support, I will have those same rights as my partner. I grew up being made to believe that I was less or a deviant of society. I knew I wasn't but it for 18 years of my life I let others less qualified speak for me. Then one day I snapped. Today, I'm a fiesty one when it comes to human rights. EVERYONE no matter what belief, color, sex or nationality has the right to love someone without being hassled. I think I love Perth even more now:) Thanks for showing us this. The world is changing with social media and Australia eventually will join the world. If the US and Ireland can do it, others will as well:) Our world is changing.

  10. I agree with Chis. In Sweden same sex marriages have been okay in churches since 2009 but it is up to the priest if he or she wants to perform that act.

  11. What am I missing? Isn't Christianity about love for you fellow man? Make sense to me. Tom The Backroads Traveller

  12. Abbott seems just as much of a complete git as Harper is here. Asking either of them to be a man and admit to a mistake is beyond them.

  14. Sounds to me like you and I pretty much see eye to eye on this issue. I really don't understand what the big deal is for the opposition. It doesn't really affect them at all.
As for the gratuitous cute dog....awwww...I do love English Bulldogs. That was my dog when I was growing up and she was such a sweetheart.

  15. A nice post, Grace. Live and let live. My attitude is that if people don't like same sex marriages, they shouldn't marry someone of the same sex.

  16. I am so with you Grace. I have been happily married since 2014. Matty, my husband and I married in Massachusetts. The first State in the US to legally marry people of the same sex. In DC it came later. So glad that now for basic legal reasons we can travel all over the US and be recognized. Yes, the world is changing and little by little we will hopefully see this happening everywhere. Thanks for your wonderful words and your post.

  19. I agree with you, although having been married to the same person for 41 years, I'm not so down on the institution. Love the mime, if that's what he is, with the rainbow face paint and tutu.

  20. I just think we should all have the right to love whom ever and if they chose to marry why not let them. I still think Marriage is the right way to go, I like that someone is will to make a commitment before God and all their friends.

  25. We have a three-weeks-program leading to our CSD, sadly the mayor opened it very stupid speaking of a variety that also includes handicapped and refugees. If I wasn´t seated I would´ve fallen due to that.
I agree, you should be allowed to marry the one you love, no matter which sex.

  26. Hopefully Abbott will change his stance, it's outdated and unfair! Love is love, why should we condone who we choose to marry?

  27. i love that little doggie and that guy above him with the rainbow face! yeah, it's crazy how many people are so judgemental about it. being from california, we've always been very open, then moving to the bible belt you see how not very many people are accepting...sad...and yes, it doesn't change my life one little bit! go on, be happy!

  32. What a colourful, powerful turnout of people standing firm against the narrow-minded Abbott. Incredible sea of umbrellas reperesenting poor weather but strong spirit. Love it.
