Clean Drains = River Gains..

We make a point of looking up now and again so as not miss anything but personally I need to start looking down also.. can't believe after all the times I've walked the pavements of Perth this is the first time I've noticed the bright blue buttons of the Swan River Trust's Clean Drains, River Gains campaign highlighting 'the link between drains and rivers' and hopefully 'educating the community on the impact of allowing rubbish and contaminants to enter Perth's storm-water drains'. There are always going to be those who treat the streets as their own private rubbish bin.. grrr my pet hate, especially as there are rubbish bins everywhere! Well, that was a bit more serious than yesterday's post :) Happy new day, take care and stay safe.. p.s. do you have something that makes you go grrrr?

  1. Many things make me grrr... but I can't think of any right now! ;-)
Love this cute sign with the dolphin. The color is pretty too.

  2. Great post and I love the sign and, yes, there are many things that make me grrrr, too, but like Halcyon, I can't think of any right now -- just got out of bed and the brain doesn't function for another hour or two! Hope your week is going well!!

  3. The city went around and painted stencils of fish by many of our street drains to make people think about what was going down the drain but I'm not sure if the people who needed the reminder got the message. Many things make me grr too, Grace.

  4. People who careless discard their trash in public are nothing but rubbish themselves. Educate kids in school to train future generations.

  5. Rubbish bins have for the most part disappeared in Paris after the 1980s terrorist attacks but there are plenty transparent plastic bags that have replaced them and still there's rubbish everywhere. And dog... umm... I will never get it...

  6. A commendable goal indeed. Do I have anything that makes me go grrrr? Right now it's political ads, especially those that tell lies and half truths in order to confuse the voter.

  7. One great change in society in my lifetime has been how it has become generally unacceptable to drop rubbish in the street. That is not to say it doesn't happen, but someone who does risks getting a glare from someone, if not more. The blue button is a great idea. Many years ago our local council and schools did something similar with stencilled paintwork, but I can't recall the slogan now.

Cieldequimper, our underground stations have those clear plastic bags, but even they have just been removed under the latest terrorism threat. What nonsense.

  9. You sees these around the US, something like Sewer Drains to River/Lake/Ocean. Who knows how effective they are.

What makes me go grrr? Republicans.

  10. It's an attractive symbol but if you need consciously to look down to notice maybe it's wrongly placed and would have more of an impact at eye level?

You ask about the red seaweed. Yes, definitely red seaweed. There are several kinds which wash up on the beach here and I tried putting them on iSpot to find out what they are. But it's awkward to identify by photos alone so that didn't really work. I even bought a book but the pictures were fuzzy and although I was bowled over by the complicated lives of seaweeds I didn't get any further in knowing which is which of the stringy kinds like this.

If it hadn't rained I would go back and take some more analytic photos but it's a bit of a clamber to reach this beach and in wet weather the cliff becomes unstable. I'd rather leave the seaweed as a mystery than find myself under a landslide!

  11. Interesting post and agree with your "grrrrs" Grace- Chewing gum and cig butts on the pavement is mine. And yes, it pays to look up, down and all around when CDP blogging ;-)

  15. Perth, Australia in general, is super-tidy in the streets compared to over here in Europe, Grace. Always makes me going, ahhh, how nice! :-)

Way more grrrr is all the dog poo lying around everywhere over here!
