Ready the cannons.....!

There are four cannons high on the hill at Kings Park aimed out towards the Swan River just in case of a possible invasion, always best to be prepared oui! Two of them dated 1843 may have been used in the Crimea War and the other two dated 1813/14 by Wellington's army at Waterloo. I wonder what Queen Victoria would have thought of this magnificent vista she surveys here, likewise her son Prince Alfred if he had taken the time on his Australian trip in 1867 to visit WA, I suppose to be fair it would have been a very long way to come in those days, heck most people still think it's a long way to come! If I can convince at least one or two people out there that the journey is well worth it then my job is done haha! Take care on your journey today, stay safe.....

  4. Good ole Queen Vic and her son Alfred would've loved this sight, I'm sure! It's gorgeous and very funny to see that cannon (even though it's war artillery, it feels more like a cool antique contraption to my modern brain cells) - I love that you have it preserved right out there in a public park.

  9. Beautiful pictures; I'd love to see the country myself.

Here on Parliament Hill we have a statue of Queen Victoria as well. And just below, on an outlook that's currently under restoration work, usually stands a cannon aimed over towards the Quebec side of the Ottawa River. Just in case they ever seperate.

  12. As in Melbourne, Queen Victoria is located where she can cast and eye over her colony.

  14. Queen Victoria certainly does have a grand view. I suppose if she has to stand there in perpetuity, than she better have something good to look at.

  15. Oooohhhhh......a little ocean air sounds nice right now. The blues are intense....the Eucs fantastic......and the weather perfection. I need a vacation.

I'm going to make it through this week. It has been tough today. A lot of my work takes place out in the field and today a border patrol agent was shot and killed near Mexico. It was hard hearing this news and I feel terrible for his friends and family. They have protected me while on my wildlife shoots and I thank you for your thoughts. I think I'm going through a midlife crisis right now with careers. It's scary. Just one of those days that I need to take a stroll along the ocean.....but there's no ocean in the desert:) So thank you for sharing the bright and happy pics.

  21. King's Park sure is lovely. Looks like the cannon is aimed to fire right between the tree trunks. Hope that walker in red doesn't get in the line of fire. Happy Wednesday!

  24. Love how the sun created such great shadows in the cannon shot. I wonder why we humans are so fascinated by cannons! Hey, I suspect you're correct that we can never be too prepared. :))
