Challenges.....!

Being the last night of the Perth Royal Show and not actually wanting to experience the crowds, we took a drive up to Reabold Hill 7kms west of Perth. The fantastic views of the city and the Indian Ocean from the boardwalk at the summit are well worth the trip. I did take these shots using a tripod but the distance and total lack of any kind of lighting proved a bit of a challenge for the Lumix using the 24X zoom. The shot below gives you a visual idea of the distance, there's Perth way back there on the horizon.....
I almost forgot to tell you the reason we went up Reabold Hill on the last night of the Perth Royal Show, it was for the fireworks...also quite a distance away and even more challenging and to cut a long story short..tah dah! here is my only firework shot worth showing (and even that's debatable haha!). I must get back there in the daylight and take some shots of the city and the ocean under less formidable circumstances. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday, take care.....

  1. Your zoom is quite impressive, Grace! That's a nice skyline shot. Nice fireworks shot too. They're not easy to shoot! I keep saying I'm going to learn how to shoot fireworks and lightning when I have time. Hmm...maybe when I retire! Hope your Sunday is relaxing.

  7. I like your burst of colour. Fireworks are such fun. I have never managed to get a satisfying shot but have some ideas for when I am next at a firework event e.g. (1) Photographing them by sitting on the ground behind the crowd and trying to use the people as a silhouette in the foreground (2) picking a vantage point some distance away and using a tripod and a slow shutter speed (3) hoping luck and favorable conditions are on my side.

  19. Oh my, just gorgeous night and firework shots! I've also struggled with both and you're inspiring me to try again with the Lumix that's been gathering dust, haha (but it's not the camera, it's the photographer:) I love how cities look at night, magic.

  21. Holy cow....that fireworks shot is so beautiful. I'm catching up with posts after my vacation away. No internet. Cool weather. Lots of bears and other critters and it was a nice break from the world. Night shots are tricky.

The yellow cars in your other posts are cool as they stand out. But the weather sure is gray and cloudy in your area. It would be nice since you don't have to water the plants:) Hope you're well.
