Two of a kind.....!
This lighthouse located on the North Mole in Fremantle has been in operation since 1906, it's light is visible for 11 miles and it indicates the entrance at the western most point of the Harbour. The 15m tower is made of cast iron and is painted red. The great thing is that there is a pair of them.... an identical lighthouse ( well apart from the fact that it's painted green) sits on the South Mole (South Mole Lighthouse) they are apparently the only two lighthouses left of this design anywhere. I think they are a really attractive couple and more than make up for the dismal edifice that is Parliament House!

I wonder what it looks like inside? I wonder if the lighthouse person lived inside? Hmmm
ReplyDeleteHi Leif, I don't think the lighthouse keeper would live in the lighthouse, probably he and his family would have a small house nearby. Not 100% sure on this, but it's most likely.
ReplyDeleteLove the look of this lighthouse.
ReplyDeleteI'm a lighthouse fan and this one is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jim, it is pretty snazzy!
ReplyDeleteHi cieldequimper, it is almost impossible to go past a lighthouse without whipping out the camera I agree!!
Thanks to Jack I have it now Ciel, that sounds not quite so formal oui?
ReplyDeleteBecause I was born in a small town on the shores of Lake Michigan I have a special affinity for lighthouses. This one is so different from any that I have seen here in the states. The colour is magnificient!!
ReplyDeleteI like the lighthouse, there is something of magic.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful lighthouse, an old passion of mine. The sky and the background are quite dramatic and the bright colors of the tower come out even better!
ReplyDeleteWould love to see the green one too - most lighthouses seem to be red or white - or both! Great shot!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
this is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the great comments. It is a special lighthouse and if you click on the link you will see it's green counterpart..
ReplyDeleteNever heard of cast iron lighthouses. But then, I've always been told to eat my spinach, the iron in it would make me strong. Hope it works for lighthouses as well. More spinach, vicar?
ReplyDeleteI would image the painting on these two lighthouses to be a year-round job. The danger of rust must be ever-present.
ReplyDeleteThey do always look very fresh Julie, so I expect you're right about the regular maintenance.
ReplyDeleteI love lighthouses and this one is so cool!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous...

Wow, it's really a classic lighthouse! We don't have many lighthouses here but we do have saracen signal towers all along the coast.
