Bit of a hefty post today as it's my last for ten days... gives you time to read it :) Was up early on Sunday morning to take some shots of the Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma which, depending on your level of fitness and enthusiasm, could be 1, 10, 30 or the full course 60km, would love to be that fit! Couldn't bring myself to use the longs lens, I mean... all those bike helmets coming straight at me :) At the same time as I was taking shots of the bike riders raising money a steady stream of walkers were crossing the bridge calling out encouragement to the riders, they themselves, including the Angels above were part of an amazing group of walkers taking part in a two day Weekend to End Women's Cancers walk, have a look at video here.. seriously Perthites you are fabulous!
The long distance riders set off at 6am from Elizabeth Quay in the city and rode north up the freeway turning at Warwick Rd and South as far as Roe Highway.. the fittest riders below on their way back from the northern side, my side of the river.
Back towards the city... so many long shadows at that time of the morning!
Was strange to see the normally busy freeway below minus vehicles on one side, you can just imagine how busy the alternative to the freeway roads were during that seven hour period... all in a good cause :) Only one more sleep until I face my biggest fear, flying! I'm off on my annual trip to see my Sydney famille, can you believe my gorgeous granddaughter will be two this week... I know right, where does the time go! Even more exciting she will have a baby brother in two months time, double celebrations! No social media for me while I'm away, too much quality family time to catch up on... so until I, hopefully :) return, take care and please stay safe.. p.s. maybe next time I should go by train :)
Peculiar to see cyclists on a freeway, but a very good cause. Enjoy the break, Grace!
ReplyDeleteFabulous post, but we'll still miss you every day. Enjoy, Grace!
ReplyDeleteperhaps they do, but I do not
ReplyDeleteAlways good to hear about events like this. Your 10-day event with family will be equally as productive, only in a slightly different way. Have a ball!
ReplyDeleteWe will miss your fine posts for the next ten days. A few years ago I would have happily ridden the full distance, but now perhaps something shorter. Would be a great opportunity to ride the freeways. They never close for such events here.
ReplyDeleteYou will have a fabulous time making the plane ride worthwhile, Grace! We have a similar bike ride here in June and a 2 day walk for cancer in the fall.
ReplyDeleteYou will be fine and have a wonderful trip. I am much more nervous about flying to the USA in June!!! Have a great 10 days Diane
ReplyDeleteThat freeway sure does look very strange sans traffic. Have a fabulous break.
ReplyDeletei like the selfie shot! enjoy your family!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Sydney.
ReplyDeleteOMG! has it really been two yrs! seems like she should still be a newborn. Nice shots. I do like the empty road with the city in the distance. I bet you did great on the flight. Enjoy
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time!
ReplyDeleteFeaturing the now not so new train to Mandurah. Don't they age and grow so quickly. Sad but true, the first one is always that little bit extra special, in the early years at least.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the days with your family! It will be fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly got some great shots here. Hope you have a super time with your family. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteIt gives a real sense of space without the motor traffic Grace - hoping you have a wonderful break with your family.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice time Grace and enjoy, at least you have no terrorists there at the airport as here in Europe!
ReplyDeleteSome great shots here Grace ...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time away with family and your gorgeous granddaughter. Exciting news about the new baby too!
Time flies by so quickly, you must enjoy every moment.
Safe travels
All the best Jan
Have a safe and enjoyable trip, Grace! We'll miss you!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, Grace! Safe travelling and have heaps of fun with your family :-)
ReplyDeleteNice photos with the city in the background. Enjoy your flight and your special time with your granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteThat would be a very long train ride but I bet it would be interesting with lots to see. Have a great time with the family!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful views! It' s a funny ride :) Arianna
ReplyDeleteGosh all those empty roads, it looks really odd.....have a fantastic trip....
ReplyDeleteAll for a good cause. Your shots show your excellent road and rail system over there. They were just building it when we were there last. So sorry that you have a fear of flying. take deep breaths and try to keep calm. Just think that you are getting on a bus or train and the bumps are potholes. Also remember, it much safer in an aeroplane than in a car on the road. I bet you get in a car without feeling fear. Good luck and have a super time with your family and grands.
ReplyDeleteAn amazing event for sure!!
ReplyDeleteNice to see the people of Perth out and about, especially when it's to support so many good causes. Enjoy your time in Sydney!
ReplyDeleteI like the dynamic and the perspectives of your photos. They are impressive.
ReplyDeleteGrand views of the city area. Wonderful to see so many cyclists supporting a worthy cause. And the colours of the train carriages look splendid in the landscape. Enjoy your Sydney time.
ReplyDeleteHello Grace! I wish you to have great time with your family. It's great to visit your blog again. Spring time here in Greece and i'm sitting outside with a cup of coffee ready to enjoy all your post i've missed. Take care!

ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time! Lovely city too. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time, Grace :)
ReplyDeleteHope you arrived (and perhaps returned) in fine form :) Flying is my least favorite mode of transportation...definitely at the bottom of my list. Walking would be my favorite...feet firmly planted on terra firma :) I know your family is very happy you put aside your feelings regarding flying so you can spend time with them...happy visit :) Great shots of the marathon :)
ReplyDeleteJust looking at all of these makes me exhausted. The last time I rode a bicycle I needed a cortisone shot in my knee.
ReplyDeletePerth to Sydney by train? What's your life expectancy?
A great event and great photos of it Grace! Hope you enjoyed your time in Sydney.
