French toast in Toodyay...

Top of the agenda on arriving in Toodyay (excellent link) 85km east of Perth was breakfast! With a current population of 4707 Toodyay is a relatively small, but tres jolie country town. It was just before 9am on Saturday morning and along the main street cafes were filling up, shop doors opening. To say coming across The Cola Cafe & Museum was a surprise is putting it mildly.. I mean, who knew, although I think a few of you guessed! The collection of memorabilia gathered over the last 45 years was impressively substantial.. albeit a touch bizarre :)

We started with French toast, lashings of maple syrup..yum, followed by bacon (not me), eggs, hash browns, tomatoes, more toast and coffee! Back in Perth reading reviews of the cafe there were a few not so kind.. as for this 'city slicker' :) I would say it was a unique and enjoyable country experience. Show you the purpose of our visit tomorrow. Happy Monday, or Sunday depending where you are, take care...

  4. Reminds me of Camsnax where I used to drink Coca-Cola when I was about twelve. Formica tables and ketchup in plastic bottles shaped like tomatoes! Very sophisticated for the 1960s!

  5. It certainly did not remain long as a patented medicine as it was first conceived in the USA. Certainly a worldwide image, but this one is unusual since it is located in your country rather than the US. Very colourful and obviously quite a popular place.

  6. Strange how we kept ending up at places this weekend that didn't sell coke but instead pepsi which is a nasty imitation. My buddy is a big coke fan but I quit drinking all of it as it got to be too sweet and well I am just sweet enough without it.

  8. Yay, I've been to Toodyay - 3 years ago, and the drive from Perth out there was gorgeous, there had been rain and everything was green and lush and it was nearing the end of the wildflower season. I loved the town! Could seriously live there. It was just gorgeous with some very, very nice stores for a bit of retail therapy. I did NOT see the Cola Cafe and Museum though, so your photos are a bonus for me. Must have been too busy shopping elsewhere. Mm. Ah, now for your reason for being there....?
    Have a great week Grace!

  9. What a funny name for a town, Grace - and how did we miss it?! Guess there is a lot to (re-)discover once we have retired. Haaaa..... I do have to play lotto, huh? ;-)

  14. Well, it's sugar fizzy water. If I drive that far for a beverage museum at least I'd like a beer.

What lies between Perth and this town? I have this image of Australia as a huge mass with several big coastal cities and little in between. Many years ago our family drove from Sydney to the Blue Mountains and there wasn't much once we left the suburbs.

  18. I like cafés like this Grace. Their curios scattered around the place often create great conversations while nibbling on your French toast.

  23. Glad you checked this place out! Looks like a fun place. Reviews are written by people with certain preferences so you have to take many of them "with a grain of salt."
