The New Museum for WA.. where the past meets the future.

You might remember my last visit to the Western Australian Museum see here and here and the splendid original staircase here. As you can see from the notice above there are big changes afoot. The design for the new museum here (excellent link) shows that the heritage listed old museum, front and side view below, has been incorporated into the new plan.. thank goodness, I fell in love with that old staircase the moment I saw it, it was like climbing back into the early 1900's, too fabulous. I've made hasty judgements Elizabeth Quay before about new developments, this time I will hold off until the project is fini.. actually if you look at the link it really does look spectacular. Unseasonably unsettled weather in Perth for the next few days, lots of rain expected, looking forward to it :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe... P.s did I mention that there is a much better picture of the new museum on link :)

  1. Hopefully the new design doesn't hinder the original building.

  2. Not sure about the new design. I like old. However, I do not live there so it will be up to you and your friends to like or dislike the new museum.

  3. I like when the old and new live together in artistic ways. Yes, we're learning to wait and to listen before being against any new development :)

  7. Wow, that link to the plans is fantastic. I like they way they've kept the facade and added the modern section to it with all that glass. It will look incredible when it's done.
We are going to have some unseasonably warm weather tomorrow and a day or two after. We are looking at highs around 30C. Enjoy your rain!

  14. The museum looks like a grand old lady. But the new design tastefully acknowledges the old grandeur. Good one.

  15. OMG, that is a very ambitious design, don't know I like it this way. We had the same idea with the Modern Art Museum in Amsterdam with a new "bathtub" built against the old building....

  17. Great link about the new Museum. So glad the old one is being incorporated, it would have been a crime to pull it down.
