Well look who flew in.....!

I've been meaning to take a few close ups of the lantern house atop the lighthouse at Hillary's Boat Harbour for a while now and luckily I had my zoom lens handy when we were there a few days ago.  The lantern house is the original refurbished and recycled unit from the Bedout Island lighthouse which was demolished and replaced in 1980, Bedout Island is on the outer edge of reefs 30 miles N/E of Port Hedland and is subject to extreme tidal ranges. The two men weren't the only ones enjoying the view, an Osprey, oh la! look at those talons, flew in and landed right in my viewpoint, merci beaucoup monsieur raptor :) It just occurred to me that I've never taken a shot of the lighthouse in action at night, must rectify that soon! Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe.....

  3. Being that I'm about to abscond a land filled with lighthouses, you've given me an idea. I'll have to try photographing one at night.

  4. Very cool! I love lighthouses and it's not often we get to see them here. Even better is that you got an Osprey flying of them!

  6. Great shots, Grace! I've seen ospreys at work and those talons are deadly! Once caught, prey stays caught! Very cool lighthouse, too, and that shot with the two men is worth framing and hanging!

  7. Great capture! We had an Osprey at the lake that was teaching her little ones to fish...of course my camera was not along :(

  8. So glad to hear it's actually a working lighthouse!!! I think all of the ones in the US have been retired and now are simply museums or tourist spots...

  16. That bird has the strongest legs and talons. I'm staying away. Fortunately, fish are more of a target than I, but I am not taking chances.

  24. How cool was that. Birds usually fly out of my shots. I wonder where his nest was... on the lighthouse??

  27. While I'm gazing on your lighthouse, I just wanted to pass on that the other hot afternoon me and friends enjoyed ice cold shandies on the back deck. Thinking of you this summer. hahahaha
