Reading Helps Kids Fly.........

Looking ahead yesterday as I walked through the Perth Cultural Centre towards the State Library, for a miniscule moment :) the two black and white pylons brought to mind Les Deux Plateau in Paris (well I can dream can't I). Called 'Gateway II Coalesce' they are the first major public art work by Akio Makigawa (1948-1999) and consist of a series of Japanese inspired black & white marble pylons arranged around the approach to the library. There are works by Akio Makigawa in most cities around Australia, many in Melbourne where he lived for a while, I know there are a few more around Perth, I'll be keeping an eye open..maybe even two :)) The reflection caught between the middle pillar is PICA (Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts), the splendid building in the two shots below the Museum of WA where there is currently an Egyptian exhibition called 'The Secrets of the Afterlife' pffffft seriously!  it's complicated enough keeping up with the 'this' life never mind the after oui! Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe...p.s. catch up today!

  2. I like those pieces. The B&W is so dramatic, Grace.

  3. These are very attractive and I can see that they attract the younger "climbing" crowd. They do kind of make you think of the Palais Royal. That Egyptian exhibit sounds interesting too.

  4. I'm sorry to have to say that I hate Buren's installation in Paris. I do, however, this this looks good. I'm strange, aren't I? :-)

  5. I don't know of him or any of his work. I will have to look.

  6. Looks a bit like a monochromatic playground to me and look we have a kid climbing around. I agree with you, Grace, too much to think about in this life. Keeps me on my toes.

  7. This outside installation looks a wee bit chaotic, but in a good way.

Secrets of the Afterlife? I remember as a child going to one of the museums in Toronto every once in awhile and looking at the mummies. For some reason, I was utterly fascinated.

  10. Hmmmm. I can't say that I like these sculptures. Sorry. Then again, my post tomorrow from Hartford has artwork that I don't like either, so we are even.

  18. The black and white pylons are interesting artworks - looking toward the cultural centre - but odd! Almost as if they are out of place! Perhaps the grand design of the museum nearby conflicts!

Thanks so much for your kind words about my flu! Still struggling at night but better in the daytime!

  19. Isn't is fantastic that you enjoying taking photographs, Grace! So much going on here. I really like how that bright building architecture shows up through the artwork. Ooh, and there is a little debate going on here about the pylons. Wonderful! All of it.

  20. I'm not sure how I feel about the plyons although I do like the color. What amazes me again is the sheer magnitude of art works throughout your city. Makes me envious!

  21. Interesting sculpture but I rather suspect the Secrets Of The Afterlife show my be selling itself under false pretences. And anyway... as soon as you tell someone something then it is no longer a secret. That's why I don't tell anyone the profound and ultimate truth that only I know (though it wouldn't take long to explain.... (hint) :)

  22. I like modern art a lot! :D For me it's really cool! And I also like the building facade!
