Ghostly tales.....

Straight up I admit to a bit of tweaking (you'd never have guessed right!) to give the lobby of the Rose & Crown, the oldest hotel in the State a suitably ghostly appearance. Known as the Rose & Crown Inn back in 1841 it's said that the spirits of convicts and former publicans roam the corridors and cellars of this Georgian style heritage listed building, and as much as I prefer not to think about 'other worldly' matters, I can see how the possibility of espying something spooky would hugely appeal to many more adventurous than I.. is it just me or do you see 'something spherical' in the original 1841 dining room to the right :) The room to the left is the private dining room.....
The reception area has a wonderfully warm and friendly atmosphere, j'adore all the warm wooden furniture and fittings.....
The steps leading down to the the Cellar Bar and some lovely old benches that I thought Malyss and VP might enjoy :)
The water from the well below built by convicts was once used for brewing ale and to the right the tunnel entrance that led down to the shores of the Swan River, used for bringing stores up to the hotel from barges.
Seen under the light of a clear blue sky this lovely old hotel in Guildford one of Perth's oldest suburbs, doesn't look eery at all, in fact we enjoyed a scrumptious lunch in the lush gardens..but as the sun goes down.....haha! only kidding, I'm sure there are no ghostly goings on at all :) Happy middle of the working week, take care.....

  1. Ghost stories are intriguing. I'd like to see a ghost but I'd want someone with me to share the experience.

  2. What a lovely old hotel -- in spite of the possible "ghostly encounters"!! I love it!! You've caught both the ghostly and the normal, beautiful mood of the place! I'd love to visit there! Great post for the day as always, Grace! Hope your week is going well!

  3. Interesting old place, looks like they don't mind you wandering around.

  4. I have mixed feelings about a place like this (but not about the lovely benches!): it is quite formal and comfortable, but it really looks like a place where a ghost may find himself at ease. Luckily ghosts do not exist... hopefully!

  5. Oooh, unlike VP I have no mixed feelings at all, I would loooove it! :-) Just like stepping back in time!

Is that what you guys call "Federation"? Or do I have the wrong period?

  7. I like the mood here! I would even be happy to meet a ghost and try to know from it how it was in past times! :o)
(Strangely, it makes me think of a place I saw in "Dr Who" !)
Thank you very much for the beautiful benches ,so full of charm!

  13. Ooh, spoooooky! I love that very first photo, but the rest of the tour looks spook-tacular too. I admit, I love a good old-fashioned ghost story and wouldn't mind poking around (just out of scientific curiosity, to be sure:) - what a fantastic find of a place!

  15. Charming old hotels like this are so much more appealing than many modern ones. Have you ever awakened in a modern hotel and not remembered what city you were in, because the hotel didn't have any special features?

  16. Carolyn and I have stayed at the hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, (The Stanley) where The Shining was shot. This place looks a lot like it.

  21. This looks like a wonderful place to explore. I agree there is something spherical in the second set of photos on the right. Perhaps they have done it already but a "Murder Mystery" dinner at this venue may work well. It was Mr Green in the Dining Room with the Keg!
