Like most people I find old black and white photos captivating. From architecture to dress style and everything in between! You have seen the heritage listed Horseshoe Bridge built in 1904 here before, when it was built it was the main pass over from the city to Northbridge, with the new development of Yagan Square this is no longer the case. The last time I was in the city the old photo here was inserted into one of the under arches. Despite searching I couldn't find when it might have been taken but.. if you pull it in you will see soldiers either going off to or returning from I'm guessing the First World War between 1914-1918 definitely not the Second World War, the clothes are all wrong. Is it just me who finds these old images fascinating? I'm not sure if the link will work but have a look HERE to see horse drawn carriages going across the bridge instead of cars, looove it! Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..
...this sure is captivating.
ReplyDeleteNice way to fill in the arch.
ReplyDeleteLooking at old photos, especially B & W, is quite a nice way to spend your time and take a step back in history.
I share your fascination with old photographs. This one on the Horseshoe bridge is captivating. Yes, your link did work to see the other pictures.
ReplyDeleteI love the old B&W shots too, Grace. Especially family pics where everyone looks so glamorous!
ReplyDeleteThat is a creative use of that space.
ReplyDeleteThe photo looks great there. I love b&w photos too. The one of Horseshoe bridge is pretty impressive, very nice to see.
ReplyDeleteHello Grace,
ReplyDeleteVery nice that this old bridge with a large history has remained intact.
So special with the countered. Funny with the old picture on the wall.
Nice to see the old picture of your link.
Here in city Rotterdam we have a little bit the same. An old railway bridge and station through the city. The nostalgic spaces underneath have now become beautiful catering establishments. A nice place to go for a drink or meal.

Greetings, Marco
I follow my alma mater’s archive photo Twitter account.. Such great old photos!
ReplyDeleteI found interesting the contrast of the black and white photo in the middle of your color photo of the bridge.
ReplyDeleteThat's terrific and I hope it causes young people to wonder for minute or two.
ReplyDeleteDearest Grace,
ReplyDeleteSuch black and white historic photos are always in depth and quite informative.
Hugs,
Mariette
Yes it definitely looks like turn of the century, what a cool idea - love it.
ReplyDeleteLove that photo, Grace and weee the bridge looks so spacious with only those few horse carriers.
ReplyDeleteLast time on my last day Ingo stayed home and I strolled through Yagan Square by myself.
Sometimes I like to say my good-bye like that. And now I´m homesick.
Darn Corinna...
É realmente uma foto cativante.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e continuação de uma boa semana.

Always nice to see old cities when they themselves were young. Then expectations are always high.
ReplyDeleteI love to see old B & W photo's, so interesting the differences in clothing and streetviews!
ReplyDeleteI love old photos like this too and having it placed in a historic location like this gives you a peek back in time.
ReplyDeleteSome subjects are so much better in B & W. Hope all is well Diane
ReplyDeleteI like old black and white photos too, Grace.
ReplyDeleteIt's cool the way they inserted it into the entire storefront. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI find old photos B&W and colour informative for all of the things in the background, clothing styles etc.
