What do you think about spam?

Following the lead of the two galahs above chatting over breakfast yesterday morning thought I'd start up a conversation here with you :) I've been having a few problems lately commenting on certain of my favourite blogs, specifically blogs that use comment moderation. I understand it is to avoid nuisance spams, which I too was getting. This is what I did.. went to 'design' on my blog, down to 'spam' in the comments, there were over ten thousand spam that it had stopped coming through, I cleared the spam folder and since then haven't had any, fingers crossed! So here's the thing.. I wonder if the spam folder only holds so many and if you clear it out every so often it might catch the few that slip through. What do you think, do you clear your spam folder.. just a thought :) Happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

  1. I clean my spam comments folder probably once a month, and I've even found a few comments from my normal readers in the spam folder.

  4. I haven't cleared out spam, but really ought to. I do monitor my comments, as some spam still gets through on occasion.

What a pretty pair these are.

  5. Neat birds.
I too, sometimes will get a few spam comments, not many since I changed the settings on comments a few years ago to not allow anonymous comments. The new Blogger captchas are not too bad, but I tried that route as well as Google only members, but that kept too many readers unable to comment.

  6. Such gorgeous birds!
I just cleared out my spam folder but, I only had 234 in it. I don't notice that it catches some and doesn't post them because everything I saw in my spam folder was stuff I deleted and marked as spam. If it is stopping those people from future posts, I'm not aware of it. I did recently change my setting to require moderation after 5 days. That way when the spammers hit, I don't have to delete so many of them at once. I had one last week that posted on 12 days of posts and then posted on two more that required moderation. It seems to me like a lot of work to go to for no result because I can't imagine any of our readers ever click on their stupid links.

  7. What pretty birds. I have never cleared out my spam folder but there is tons of spam in it. That's a project for later, clearing it out. I never gave thought to that.

  10. I receive emails for some comments I receive so I can identify spam straight away, but I also check in the comments folder.

  11. I real don't get that many spams...I don't let anonymous comment on my blog. I figure it helps keep people up front and honest.

  12. I get the comments and then I screen them to make sure they aren't spam. I hate that stuff. I had to moderate because the spam got out of control.

  13. Oh, Grace, I never knew there is such a folder!
I feel ... uhhhh... I think I have to check that out! But then. My blog is so small... those one or two I get per month slipping through, pffft (WHY, why do they do that? Are they just sick in their minds?).
Lovely birds. No such beauties here.

  14. I also have a parrot! Her name is Rocky ... we first thought it was a "he"!
I check the spam folder almost every day! Was a madman from India trying to send spam but my comments are in moderation!
I wish you a good and healthy week!

  16. We saw galahs grazing on grass roots in Devonport. Google empties spam after thirty days. I check every so often and I never have that number. I just wish spammers would work out I am not straight, no need of a Russian bride, and I have an adequate amount of money and no wish for Bit Coin.

  19. I always check my comments first so I don't get very much spam though I do check the spam folder from time to time. I get almost none.

We are in lock down at present and they are talking about 12 weeks. Not sure what I am going to blog about, we even need forms to show the police if we go to buy food. Only banks, chemists, hospital and supermarkets (for a limited time) are open. Stay safe Diane
