Sculpture by the Sea 2015.. II

The 11th annual Sculpture by the Sea had so many wonderful entries this year.. 'mi no 5' above by Wendi Zhang (China) was exceptional. I'm not sure exactly how many flamingos, created in steel mesh there were but suffice to say they did indeed 'gather shape to present a beautiful scene, creating a harmonious ecological visual effect'! Below, constructed from thousands of tiny, hand made bricks 'vessel' by Andrew Burton (England). In the second shot Aimee and Amy taking different viewpoints and the third 'Penelope's web' by Kevin Draper (WA) 'based on an ancient symbol that relates to the mythological figure of Penelope  who wove the thread of destiny in the old world'.

The two below made me smile.. 'over under through around' by Peter Zappa (WA), don't you like my clever framing of the life buoy :).. and why when I saw 'mr melancholy' by Paul Stanwick-Wright (WA) made from a shipping container did I think of Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh :)

I'll leave you today with this quirky piece by Annette Thas (WA) 'dame cockatoo and entourage' the work 'questions Australian identity, what we are told it should be,what it is and what we would like it to be' .. starring Aimee as Dame Cockatoo :) Hope you're enjoying the visit to the beach, more tomorrow. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. the expression 'art is in the eye of the beholder' was never more true at an event like this!

  3. I'm really liking those flamingos. And are we supposed to think that the eye candy in the background of photo number 3 was an accident. I think not :) I had to enlarge the photo just to check details fully, for professional reasons you understand.

  5. I LOVE the flamingos, Grace. I've always loved the tacky plastic pink flamingos and these ones are so much more wonderful. They are beautifully made from the looks of them.

  17. They are all wonderful Grace! I especially like the flamingos, although seeing them in red is quite different. Unlike Bill in the comment above, I have lived in Florida all my life and have seen plenty of flamingos.
