Un bouledogue français..

When I heard that the building on the corner of Beaufort and Aberdeen St. in Northbridge was going to be demolished in the near future I wanted to make sure I had some shots of artist Drew Straker's French bulldog mural recorded for posterity.. it's adorable right! A bit of a shame to lose it but it's in a seriously shabby part of town in desperate need of an upgrade. I wasn't going to tell you this, but yesterday afternoon the first time we went into Northbridge to take these shots.. click..no card! Oh la can you imagine! Thank goodness for the freeway, 25 mins back home and another 25 return and from now on a spare card and battery carried at all times :) Have you found yourself in that predicament before, sooo annoying! Happy Monday, take care and stay safe.

  1. That is one colorful doggie and terrific captures as always, Grace!! Glad I'm not the only one who forgets things like the card!!! Hope you're ready for the new week!! Enjoy!!

  2. A dazzling mural! Back when I was using film, I once shot a whole roll of film of a mother moose and a yearling. It was only after I got home that I realized there was no film in the camera.

  3. Great mural. Too bad the architect on the project did not design the existing wall into the new structure. Then maybe the building is being made into an empty lot. Still think the wall could be preserved.

Ah Grace, there is always the internal memory that is good for a few shots.
An old habit from the days of film--always carry extra and more than what may be needed, batteries and film. Now it is batteries and a few cards.

  5. And you did so well to take some photos! I wish the design would keep a brick wall for a new bulldog...

    Many greetings Grace! Take care!

  9. Pretty darn cute mural, Grace! And yes, I learned a long time ago, subsequent to a great deal of mental anguish and aggravation, that one should never leave the house without camera, spare battery and card! :)

  10. That's a long time. 25 x 2! This is sweet actually!

Yes, once with the card. But I have my spare battery with me at all times!

  11. Happened once, won't happen again. Carry a fully charged battery with me on most, although not all, outings.

  12. Your extra drive back to get a card was worth your efforts. The mural is a great one. The only thing worse than not having a card is losing a card full of photos on the way back home after a days shooting.

  13. Yes, recently I left the house with the camera card still in the computer drive. Fortunately, it was only a five minute walk back to get it. But still pretty annoying.

  14. That is an awesome mural, I love it. I don't ever remove the card from the camera so I haven't had that happen but, the battery problem I have had before. I'm like you, a spare battery is with me at all times.

  15. I thought I heard we are having baked bouledogue for dinner tonight, but maybe I mistaken.

First digital camera, first family event, thought the card that came with the camera would be large enough for a few photos. It wasn't. Annoyingly we had bought a larger card but did not take it with us.

Arrive London after a few days in Singapore with a few hours to kill before we can check into our hotel. Wander in Hyde Park, but camera battery went flat. Used phone camera but the quality was poor.

  17. Very cute Grace. I would attempt to scratch this one under the ear.

  18. Another great mural you have found. That must have been maddening to find no card. I bet that doesn't happen again. I always carry spare battery and card in the camera case. But once the spare battery was flat too. Turned out to be faulty and it was replaced by the retailer.

  21. I appreciate all the efforts you made to show us the bulldog, sorry to hear he has to be removed.

  22. Haven't seen this one, I wish they would keep the wall with the mural in the future building project.
Many moons ago we shot a roll of film in London, it was only when we were close to 50 photos that my husband realized something was wrong. Well, we had no roll in the camera! The next day we raced around London to get all those pictures again! Recently I went to the city to meet up with an overseas friend, tour the city and take photos and the battery just died on me, so I had to go and buy a very expensive battery before I could carry on.

  23. ... or that infamous 'dead battery' notification. Frustration with a capital "F".

  24. I go with Sami, they could keep the wall! Yes, happened to me once, too, now I always check if I have the card in!

  25. Sad to say, I HAVE found myself without a card in my camera! Glad you went back for one as these photos are worth it!

  28. It would be so sad if you had not been to take photos of this wonderful mural.

  29. The bulbous eyes on this guy are incredible. What a stunning mural. Surely this is not part of the demolition.

  30. I love the unusual choice of colors in the mural. Pity it will disappear. I admire your dedication to getting the image. Don't think I would have gone to so much trouble. But you got the shot! Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
