'The way you treat a person does make a difference'.....!

...because anyone can have an odd day! I didn't have far to go for today's post.. can't get much closer than the end of your leg :) It's national 'odd socks day' and Australians are encouraged to wear odd socks as they go about their business today in a light hearted attempt to dispel the stigma that surrounds mental illness. It's estimated that one in five Australians may suffer from depression at one time or another in their lives.. the website specifies five ways in which we can help, the one that sticks in my mind .. 'be brave - don't tolerate stigma and discrimination'.. for anyone who has felt unable to cope, being told 'get over it' can't help n'est pas! I'm very happy it's Friday, hope to catch up with everyone this weekend, take care and stay safe.....

  1. Grace, I've never heard of 'odd socks day', but what a wonderful idea! [cute socks, too].
Yes, the old 'just pull your socks up and get on with it' is as useful as a hole in a pocket.
    Enjoy your weekend!

  5. I usually have a hole in one sock, maybe that counts.

  6. It's a good idea.

One in five sounds like the ratio here too. I know I'm one of those five, living with depression.

  7. Very meaningful post Grace, thank you, and I love your socks! Been catching up on your posts and am extremely impressed with your storm pics - this changeable weather can be a bit disturbing! So pleased that progress is being made on your lovely new kitchen - soon be finished and settled again!

  10. Odd socks day? Really! You Aussies can sometimes be really . . . odd.

When Susie was little, wearing mismatched socks was one of her "signatures." We are visiting her in SA in late November and are bringing some mismatched socks to put in her Christmas stocking.

  11. Didn't know there was a special day! Nice socks. In November (up in Yanchep) we are going to make 'sock dolls' out of as many 'orphaned' socks as possible.

  16. Ingo´s late Grandma... she wanted to welcome me to the family by knitting a pair of socks for me. She didn´t have enough wool and had to mix.
I loved it, which at first she didn´t believe.
Later you found her on the floor with little bits of different wools side by side - she made the most colorful socks for the whole family, found a new hobby that made her happy.
C`est la vie, non? Socks against depression - it works!
    Socks-sason starts sonn over here!
