Perth Arena Opening I, the crowds.....

When I posted this shot of the Perth Arena a few weeks back it looked like it was going to be touch and go as to whether it would be ready by opening night next weekend on the 10th November, and although there is still some 'tidying up' to be done it did open this Saturday night for a free concert featuring local bands and yesterday it was part of the 'Open House Perth' weekend, most of which I missed because of all times to get a monster headache it would be this weekend. I was determined to get in at least one of the buildings on the list and despite the foul weather, thousands of Perthites had the same idea. I confess we didn't wait in the queue for the opening at 11am, we sat in Fast Eddy's Cafe and had brunch watching the crowds standing waiting down there on the corner in the rain, made sense to me haha! I'll show you the inside tomorrow, it's really.....blue!!  Hope you've had a fab weekend, will catch up tomorrow, take care. p.s. aren't the jacarandas gorgeous.....!!

  1. It's an amazing structure! I gave up on going to openings a long time ago, I'm sure you know why! :-) And yes, blooming Jacaranda trees are gorgeous.

  2. Holy smokes, that's a lot of people. But most of all, what a building. I love all the angles and lines and edges. Very nice indeed.

  4. It's a great looking arena - and I'm with you 100%, with a crowd like that I like to step back a few paces and people watch.

And i really like the top shot as a different perspective.

  5. I love blue spiders! And is that what those trees are called? Love this post, I'd have stayed clear of the crowd too!

  9. You are a very intelligent person. You know enough to get out of the rain and stay away from crowds and make your move when it's time to do so!

Love this photo - the colors are superb!

Re your comment about Smart Cars: The Smart Car would win a race easily, although some of the golf cars are gas models and go pretty fast. They also stink up the neighborhood!

  18. What an amazing structure Grace. It looks like something out of a science fiction movie. Isaac Asimov would be proud.

  19. Wow that is a modern blue building. Sorry to hear you had a bad headache. I don't blame you for not joining the queue. WE hate queueing for anything.

  21. I didn´t get a chance to go and see it as we had a birthday lunch on Sunday, and the weather was awful too. I can imagine it will look just as quirky inside as it does outside...so I´m looking forward to your photos.

  22. What a wonderful trio of photos, Grace. (Sorry about the headache . . . I hope it has passed.) Your first shot is a nice composition, kind of quiet, setting the scene for the crowds of people and the omigosh how blue is that building!!!
