Stepping inside the box..

'In today’s global world you may drink coffee from Brazil or a smoothie containing frozen fruit from China. You could be wearing clothes made in India, watching a TV made in Japan while sitting on a sofa containing wood from Argentina on a laminate floor manufactured in Sweden. All of this has been made possible by a rectangular steel box – the shipping container'.

We don't really give it much thought do we. I have to confess when I stepped inside one of the six 20ft shipping containers, part of the Container - the box that changed the world exhibition in the port area of Fremantle Harbour last week I was shocked to see images of the catastrophic effects on the environment the 'simple shipping container that 'revolutionized' the way we live' can cause. It's definitely worth embiggening the pics to see more, a visual is so much more effective than words don't you think. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Horticultural Sunday sale..

Once again we were up and about early on Sunday morning. Aimee has a particular spot in her garden that has so far been tricky.. in that not much seems to survive there :) Thinking that perhaps native plants might be the way to go we set off early to the Friends of Kings Park Native Plant Sale. It's the first time we've been and on arriving half an hour early there was already a substantial queue waiting. As many of the plant species on sale here are not available from commercial native plant nurseries when the gates opened it was a bit like a botanical black Friday sale.. the rush was on! Happy to say Aimee came away with the plants she wanted so we will wait and see how that spot in her garden grows. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe. P.s. couldn't resist a shot of the baby in box half way down queue below :)

Blue cockatoo..

More and more these days art is being used to enhance business premises, not only on the outside but inside too and it's not just hotels, pubs and entertainment venues, it's serious business as here in an optician store on South Terrace in Fremantle. I don't know how long this gorgeous cockatoo painted by Australian artist Anya Brock has graced the wall here or why I haven't spotted it before.. there are many distractions in Freo :) but I was happy the young lady in the optician store didn't mind me popping in to take this shot. Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Remembrance Day..

In no mans land the guns fell still
Almost a hundred years ago
The war to end all wars they said
How little did they know..

The wisdom of the words above always resonate the most with me because of the truth they tell, then, the years following and sadly even now today. London Court in the city has been beautifully decorated with thousands of poppies in honour of the boundless lives lost in wars, hand knitted by volunteers from the Returned and Services League WA. Happy Monday, take care and stay safe.. 💝

Do not climb on the Eiffel Tower!

Oh la! The weather was hot yesterday, not as hot as predicted though, a mere 38C :) It didn't stop Aimee and I heading to Subiaco to enjoy this years Bonjour Perth French Festival. We purchased some art from from my favourite artiste français Tankateo, ate raclette for brunch and took home delicious pasties from La Petite Cafe & Patisserie on Cambridge Street, I knew I recognized that charming smile from somewhere :) I would have loved to stay for the French bulldog parade but another three hours in the heat was not appealing, apart from that we now had pastries to eat at home 😉 Have a wonderful Sunday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. can any of my French visitors translate the sign on the bench below?

A splash of red..

Along the banks of Lake Monger a splash of red, a bottlebrush I believe. Can you spot the lone duck among the reflections.. I didn't, P did :) We are in for a red hot freak 40C day today, I will be up early preparing my garden for the shock. I bet I can't get any takers for a weather swap right! Back down to 25C on Sunday so no drama. Whatever the weather gods are throwing your way, enjoy. Happy Weekend , take care and stay safe..

Love Freo..

Yes I do.. you never know what you might find on a trip to arty Fremantle. On Wednesday a passenger liner, 4th pic down, was in dock so the harbour and town were busy with tourists enjoying the sights. Parking at the harbour before walking through to the city is a must to see my favourite blue fishing boats and prove that I do have the will-power to resist the aroma of freshly caught fish cooking in Cicerello's.. but not always :)

Walking past J Shed, a collection of artist's studios, you never know what you might find out front, on Wednesday it was a silently honking gaggle of geese/ducks?

A bit of local Freo news below, sadly the gorgeous Bella, sculpted by renowned local artist Greg James has been stolen! Read about it here and you will know exactly which sculpture I mean, I have posted a pic of P posing with her. She weighed in at 150kgs so it wouldn't have been easy.. I fear for her safety and cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would do this. Although it was a month ago let's hope she will be found safely. Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..
