World's best unknown artist...!

The first time I saw the above artwork I thought of JM in Lisbon and his series of decay images. It is complex, it is mysterious, it is richly colourful and it's in much need of repairs! The 'wall' above and the section below (would love it if you would embiggen and be enthralled by the detail as I was) on the exterior of Gino's on South Terrace in Fremantle is an ongoing 'mini architectural fantasy' created by Australian artist Horatio T Birdbath (excellent short video). When asked 'how long have you been working on this' he replied 'since the beginning'! As you can see a big part of the mural has been damaged by damp and there is an ongoing dispute with Fremantle City Council to work with Mr. Birdbath, j'adore :) to repair this unique work.. Have a fab Thursday, take care...

  4. That is beautiful--not like as some so-called artists, who pile manure in a gallery and call it art!

  9. Mr. Birdbath (I love that name), has a very special gift. I did make the photos larger and I studied the bottom photo for a very long time. I wished I had a magnifying glass handy to check all those intricate details more closely. It's one of those pieces that would give you an endless amount of pleasure.

  10. I think the work deserves gallery space, rather than just be considered street art.

  11. Water has destroyed a lot of painting, it is the enemy of what supports the paint.

  17. My name is Horatio Thunder Birdbath but I pronounce it Horatio Thunderbird Bath; but you can call me Phoenix for short - yes, I watched the video and loved it. Can you imagine if we were all able to select our own names? What a long and convoluted mess they would be.

  20. Wonderful artist - Freo should get it's act together before it's too late. What a character, looks very much like a guy who came into my gallery in the '80s - called himself 'Barnham' !!

    Bien amicalement.

I guess if I had a name like Horatio Thunder Birdbath, or Horatio Thunderbird Bath. I'd be eccentric as well. I hope they city does restore it. This kind of public art should be treated like a treasure.
I did "embiggen" the photos! I love that word.
