Good old Dad.....!

It's been a while since we've been into the city to see the Christmas Pageant.. there was a time many years ago when we went every year. It was clear to see that apart from the young lad above who stood nonchalantly hands in pockets as if it was the most natural thing to balance atop a post above the crowds, that the most popular spot for young ones to see the parade was still sitting comfortably on Dad's shoulders! It was a disastrous night for me, no sooner had the parade started when my camera ran out of battery..and no spare, can you imagine, the air was blue! As soon as the shops open this morning guess who will be making sure she never gets caught short again :) I'll show what I did manage to capture before the lights went out tomorrow! Hope your weekend is a little less frustrating than mine, take care and stay safe.....

  1. Good crowd shots, Grace! Isn't it always the way, running out of a battery at the worst possible moment?

It's still puzzling to this northerner seeing shots of Christmas time with that kind of climate.

  3. Looks like the crowd was having a great time watching the parade. Especially like the young man with the light saber to protect himself and his dad from evil doers.

  4. I think it's really charming for the kids sitting on Dad's shoulders... except when I'm stuck behind ! Do you know the word curmudgeon ?! I do sympathize with the battery. I have an extra but I have been known to not bring it when I needed it !

  5. Nice crowd. Good to see the children and their parents enjoying the parade.

Too bad about the battery. One reason I like using the old digital cameras -- powered by AA batteries. My film cameras are either all mechanical or I power them (and my strobes) off of home made belt packs. Now why would I do that? I too was caught with dead batteries centuries ago and swore 'never again!'

  7. Oh no! I try not to forget my spare but it doesn't always work! Christmas is so exotic like that... No coats, no hats, no gloves!

  8. Great photos but you really need to make sure your battery's are charged before going or get some nicads. My DSLR will take around a 1000 on a full charge and the compact 350.

  9. I was finally out and about this week and pulled out the camera for a great shot (I think ;-)) and the battery was dead!! Bad language was heard!

  10. The only thing worse than your battery running out is having your battery run out, and the extra ones that you have in your cargo strap aren't charged either!!!

  13. I will never forget the time, with a film camera that my husband 'loaded', in the Black Hills and a herd of buffalo at the watering hole in our campground. I shot off the rest of the roll, only to find that the film wasn't properly loaded. I was so upset, I can't even say. I keep four batteries now, and I buy cards all the time so I will never be without. Hope your having a nice weekend, Grace.

  14. My rechargeable batteries are wearing out, the price has doubled over the last year for some unknown reason, glad there isn't any inflation. I may try alkaline but I didn't get good results the last time I used them.

  18. That is a real balancing act, how is it possible to stand like that so comfortable, I always have a spare with me......

  19. That same thing happened to me a couple of years ago and I did exactly the same thing, ran out and bought a spare. Now I travel with two spares all the time. I carry my small Nikon with me all the time so the spare batteries are in it too. Last weekend when I went to the Wildlife World park, I brought along a small camera bag instead of my big purse and guess what, I forgot to transfer the batteries to the camera bag. Luckily, The purse was in the car so I did have to make a rather long trek back to the car to get a battery when mine ran out.

  20. I miss the days when I could have a kid on my shoulders. These days Susie is probably 5'9" and 140 pounds, bigger than I can carry on my shoulders. Her brother is even bigger.

Yup, always have a spare battery (or at least a little compact camera) with you.

Thanks for your visits while I was away.
