Yesterday it was crisp and clear here in Perth and although the beaches were empty apart from a few hardy surfers, the lifeguards were still there keeping watch. There were two shark 'incidents' last week prompting the WA Fisheries Shark Response Unit to comment that there was 'some type of shark activity occuring along the Perth coast at present', and yet there they were, still paddling their boards out into the water. It seems that the thrill of riding the waves outweighs the the threat of being attacked and part of me really admires their courage and determination to carry on whatever, but a bigger part of me thinks....no, I couldn't possibly say that here haha! The start of another week, enjoy, before you know it ziiiip it'll be gone. Stay out of the water and keep safe.....!!
It looks beautiful, but I think I'd pass on surfing etc. and let the sharks do their thing without having me for lunch -- literally! Hope you have a great start to the new week!

Ah, yes, it seems that sharks are as fond as the Australian coast as surfers are! Tricky situation, specially with such a beautiful and inviting view!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!
Cezar
No sharks here, just the occasional whale.
ReplyDeleteHai Alarm, oh, ich würde dann leiber eine Sandburg bauen, nicht schwimmen...
ReplyDeleteLieben Gruß

I'm no surfer dude and I wouldn't be in the water! ;)
ReplyDeletelove those photos though...have a shark free week!
I think there is a difference between courage and stupidity. These folks fall into the latter category. We have a number of shark attacks every year, especially along our east coast. People never learn a thing and go into the water even when sharks are know to be swimming nearby!
ReplyDeleteCourage..gutsy...knuckleheads? Take your pick...I do NOT go in the water if there is any possibility of sharks... and, a friend who flies told me that if you ever flew over the coast here in VA Beach and saw the sharks just off the beach, you would never, ever go in the water! Nice shots though...hope you have a great week, Grace! Peace...
ReplyDeleteSharks in the water is one thing I don't have to worry about!
ReplyDeleteL agree completely with Lowell. Have a nice week, Grace!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pity , such wonderful beaches and waves, and no possibility to swim or surf; But I would be sooooooooo afraid by sharks that I would not even put a toe in water!
ReplyDeleteHow often do you have shark incidents, Grace? I would be nervous... I know there are sharks out there in the waters well off my beloved beaches, but we have a gentlemen's agreement to keep our distance from each other - and they certainly aren't great whites!!
ReplyDeleteLove the images. Looks like a gorgeous day. Obviously not much common sense surfing around. ;)
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to surf but the sharks would sure stop me!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous water and beach, but I have seen waaaay too many shark movies to be comfortable when there is a warning. I used to surf in the inlet between two islands in Georgia that were notorious for sharks... It didn't stop me but thankfully I did not have any "close encounters!"
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week!

Ah yes, that's one thing that might make me stay on the sand! I would love to stay out of the water, it's difficult when it's falling from the sky! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'll pass on the surfing, even with or without a shark lurking in the depths :-).
ReplyDeleteNo sharks over here as well. Way too hot for me though. Please have a good new week ahead.
ReplyDeleteYour beach is very nice but I'm afraid of sharks.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week. dear Grace!
I'll just spend my time on that lovely, lovely stretch of sandy beach, thank you!
ReplyDeleteYes Grace! I'll definitely be staying out of the water ... Far too cold and I couldn't think of anything worse than being eaten by a shark. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteThat two note theme in the bass popped into my head as soon as I read the title. I am constitutionally opposed to sharks. I will have no business with them.
ReplyDeleteOne reason I don't swim in the ocean. Jaws scared the heck out of me.
ReplyDeleteLa plage est belle mais je n'irai jamais dans l'eau, j'ai trop peur des requins. Bonne semaine Grace :):):)
ReplyDeleteOh no, I would never risk a tangle with a shark! I'm with you.
ReplyDeleteWell reckon that it would have to be much too cold to be out there today Grace! Amazing about the number of shark sightings and attacks recently.
ReplyDeleteHope that your weeks slows down a little but in any case, have a good one!
Courage or stupidity? It's a thin line.
ReplyDeleteBut stop taking pics of the sea, I'm jealous here!
They know the danger I think, but your are young and you want reaching the edge.
ReplyDeleteOh how I'd love this week to zip by, but I am on the same page as you re: sharks (I grew up in Hawaii), I suppose nothing will keep a surfer from surfing. Gorgeous photos (as usual!) despite what may lurk beneath :)
ReplyDeleteHi Grace! Got to say this water looks rather calm. A tropical storm named Debby has wreaked some havoc our way. We received about 7 inches of rain so far and more is coming! If you check our Cedar Key blog there's a link to some photos of the damage there.
ReplyDeleteRe your comment on The Villages: I have a feeling the guy wasn't shy but rather "wanted" by the authorities. Just a guess, of course... :-)
I can't imagine having that much nerve!!!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I saw a House Hunters Intl. episode where the couple was moving to Perth. I loved getting to see more of your beautiful city Grace~

Que suerte de playa...
ReplyDeleteSaludos y un abrazo.
Beautiful and nice clear shots !
ReplyDeleteWell i guess surfers have that in them and regardless of what there is underneath...they will go for the wave !!
Well, people say surfers are graceful, not smart. The shots are great though.
ReplyDeleteDarryl and Ruth :)
I have a deep respect for sharks and I think we need to remember that when we go in the water, we are in their territory!
ReplyDeleteI would never feel safe in those waters! I remember swimming in South Africa just for a very brief period because the Great White refused to leave my mind. LOL!
